Outlander has seen a number of its characters take on struggles throughout the time-bending show. One of the characters from the Starz show who has gone through quite a huge change over the years is Roger Mackenzie (played by Richard Rankin). Roger struggled to come to terms with moving to the past to be with his wife Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton), but he eventually yielded and made the transition.

Now, just after he found a bit of happiness and comfort in his new world, Roger suffered a brutal hanging at the hands of the British Army after being found with some regulators.
This event was particularly traumatic for Roger and his family, as – although he survived – he was left with life-changing injuries that now prevent him from speaking.
With so much going on in Roger’s life since he arrived in the past, fans have become curious about whether Roger will resent either Brianna or this new timeline for what has happened to him.
Recently, Roger star Richard held an impromptu Q&A on his Twitter account, where he spoke about Roger’s transformations throughout the seasons.

In particular, Richard was asked if Roger will always resent the time for what it did to him and his family.
To which he responded with a surprising reply. First, he joked: “That’s a good question. I’m writing it down for my S6 prep.”
Following this, he went on to say: “Not really. I think it’s coming to terms with the time, his situation, himself even.
“It’s a change that he has to go through and I’d like to think that he won’t hold on to it [the resentment] in that way.”
As Richard has alluded to Roger opting to stay in the past, it looks like he and his wife, Brianna, are sure to stick around in their current timelines – despite some debate on the matter earlier in the season.
Another fan simply asked if it was “fair” that Roger went through the stones and went through so much trauma.
To which Richard replied: “I’m sure he could live [in the past] happily.
“It was his path there and his circumstances that caused him the most trouble. [Roger] definitely [had] rose-tinted glasses. Maybe some whiskey.”
Roger has only just decided to carry on with his life in the past, so a huge story beat involving his further transition into an 18th-century man is surely on its way.
In the meantime, however, fans have been looking at storylines which seem to have been glossed over in the past.
In particular, viewers have been looking at the interaction Young Ian (John Bell) had with Geillis (Lotte Verbeek).
During his conversation with the seductress, Ian learned of Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) time travelling powers.
Now, fans of the show have recently pointed out on Reddit: “He was laying there tied up in the Jamaican cave listening to Claire and Geillis talk about time-travelling before Claire killed Geillis, SO SHE WOULDNT SACRIFICE IAN TO TRAVEL FORWARD IN TIME.”

They went on to rant: “Like, how is Ian not gonna be like, ‘Auntie, what was that woman talking about? Going to the future? To kill your daughter? You have a kid? With my uncle?
“And she lives in the future? And this b***h is killing me to go there to kill her??
“Can someone fill me in? Is that why you just appeared out of thin air after being ‘dead’ for decades?!’”
Outlander season 5 continues Sunday on Starz and Monday on Amazon Prime in the UK.
