Outlander has viewers excited for the upcoming fifth season which is due to drop in just two month’s time. And while the show is going to bring a number of new characters and scenarios, many viewers are thrilled by the prospect of seeing the arrival of Adso.
Adso is a cat introduced in The Fiery Cross – the fifth Outlander book, and basis for season five’s story.
Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) brings the feline to his wife Claire Fraser (Caitroina Balfe) in the books, and the first look image of the new character seems to depict the same event.
In first-look images revealed by TV Line, Jamie can be seen producing the grey kitten from his satchel.
Claire looks tenderly at it, whilst stretching out her hands to take it from her husband.

The scene from the book, which this event is based on, sees Jamie gifting the animal to his wife.
He went on to announce: “He’ll keep the vermin from your surgery.”
Unfortunately, Claire isn’t too thrilled by the addition to the family, as she replied: “Well, possibly very small vermin.
“I think a large cockroach could carry him — is it a him? — off to its lair, let alone a mouse.”
Later in the interaction, Claire ridicules the name given to the cat: Adso.
She demanded “What sort of name is that?
“I’ve heard a good many peculiar Scottish names, but that’s a new one.”
Jamie staunchly replied: “My mother had a wee cat named Adso.

Fans have seen quite a few snaps of this new cat on the actors’ Instagram accounts.
This may mean the cat is in many scenes coming up in the fifth season – but does he have any other purpose?
Meanwhile, fans of the show have begun to get a little nervous about the fate of the Frasers.

Recently, the show’s opening credits for season five were revealed, and saw the inclusion of a huge house in Fraser’s Ridge.
Fans of the franchise will know this enormous house is the final resting place of Claire and Jamie Fraser, as it eventually catches fire and kills them both.
While it is not yet known exactly how or why this happens, season five may begin telling the story of the end of the Frasers.
Outlander season 5 airs Sunday, February 16 on Starz and Monday, February 17 on Amazon Prime Video.
