Great British Bake Off’s Paul Hollywood makes it his mission to say ‘moist’ in episodes of the beloved Channel 4 competition show, just so you know.
Ahead of the 2022 series, which is expected to launch in September, the judge has shed light on why he frequently uses the word, which sometimes leaves viewers cringing.
‘Someone once said to me they did not like the way I say “moist” on Bake Off,’ Paul said in a recent interview.
‘They said it was an inappropriate word but I think it is a great word.’
Speaking to the Mirror, he added: ‘I have made sure that I now say it in every show.’
Bake Off has always been packed full of filthy innuendos, although on some occasions the judges are blissfully unaware they’re making them.
Last year, for example, fellow judge Prue Lieth left Paul speechless when she made an innocent remark as she inspected one baker’s signature choux pastry doughnuts.
‘Quite often I need two holes so that I can squirt,’ Prue said, unaware of the double entendre as she explained the importance of making sure a filled doughnut really is filled.
She then went on to tell George: ‘You squeeze the bag. When you meet that little bit of resistance, it usually means it’s full.’
Prue’s co-stars, however, couldn’t help but notice the X-rated remark, with Paul later wiping away a tear as he struggled to contain his amusement.
Noticing that Paul and presenter Matt Lucas were overcome with laughter, Prue demanded to know what was funny.
‘We’re just children,’ Matt replied, with Paul adding: ‘Sorry, Dame Prue.’
Great British Bake Off is expected to return later this year to Channel 4.
