Piers Morgan bashes Meghan Markle for 'playing victim card for attention'

Piers Morgan has scolded Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle for ‘playing the victim card for attention’ on Good Morning Britain.

The presenter, who took aim at Meghan and Harry only last week, demanded to know what the new mum is struggling with and called for her to develop a stiff upper lip rather than ‘whining’.

‘Can someone explain to me what is it that Meghan Markle is going through? What is this terrible ordeal?’ Piers began. ‘What is she going through? She’s living in a vast palatial home at the tax payer’s expense. I just don’t get it.’

He continued: ‘She did a lot of missteps, her and Harry. Now they’re playing this massive victim card, no one is allowed to criticise them anymore.’

Co-host Susanna Reid was forced to interject and jumped to Meghan’s defence.

‘You have a horrible way of describing it, said Susanna. ‘Playing the victim card is a really unpleasant way of describing it.’

But alas, Piers hit back: ‘Playing the victim card is the curse of the modern age. The number of people I now know who play this victim card just to get attention and make people feel sorry for them is pathetic.’

He continued: ‘We need to have less very privileged, wealthy people banging on all day long about how terrible their lives are.

‘This victimhood culture, spreading right to the top now. You have these Duchesses going on about what a victim they are, they’re not victims, they’re not. It’s nonsense… try developing a stiff upper lip.’

‘Stop the whining, honestly, being a royal is the easiest thing in the world,’ Piers quipped.

Viewers were divided over Piers’ comments about Meghan with some agreeing with what he had to say, writing on Twitter: ‘Fair point about Meghan, fair point.’

However, another posted: ‘I’m really uncomfortable with the bullying that goes on towards Meghan Markle. She might be a royal now, but she’s still a person. A mother. Come on, @piersmorgan, give her a break.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
