EastEnders legend Rita Simons has been teasing fans ahead of her debut in Hollyoaks.
The soap star is best known for her role as Roxy Mitchell in the BBC One show, so many fans were shocked when news broke she is swapping Walford for the Hollyoaks village.
Her character promises to bring big drama, with the role now confirmed to be long-term.
A source told Metro.co.uk: ‘There’s a real buzz in the air about Rita joining the show – she’s a great signing!
‘Bosses have big plans for the character, who is going to be at the centre of some really big storylines and make a real impact.
‘To say she is going to stir things up will be an understatement.’
With her first scenes set to air soon, Rita has posted on her social media, sharing her excitement over joining the show:
‘Well! The news is out! So excited to be joining the fabulous cast of @Hollyoaks later this year! Can’t tell you who I’m playing but I can tell you she’s gonna be trouble! Massive shout to my gorgeous agents’, she said.
As Rita settles into her new job, she will no doubt continue to be asked about her role in EastEnders and the possibility of returning in the future.
She indicated that many executives had been unhappy with the decision to axe the Mitchell sisters.
