WARNING: This article contains full spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, everything changed for Peter Parker. In a moment of desperation, in order to save the fabric of reality from being ripped apart, Spidey asked Doctor Strange to magically remove Peter’s existence from history. This act meant that everyone in the Marvel universe forgot who Peter was, but was still remembered as Spider-Man. But this also meant Peter’s relationships were destroyed.

In the final scene of the film, Peter visited MJ’s place of work – a coffee shop – where he planned on telling her the truth about him, and their relationship. But, after seeing the bandage on her head, he remembered that she had been hurt by just knowing him. With this in mind, he left the coffee shop. He didn’t rekindle their relationship so he could keep her safe.

However, the script already teases how things are going to go back to normal in the near future.

The script for the film, which was recently posted online, concludes the film with the same scene involving Peter at MJ’s coffee shop – but with some key differences.

After MJ says: “Yeah, actually, I am excited which is weird ‘cause I don’t really get excited about things. I kind of expect disappointment-” Peter chimed in by finishing her mantra: “-’Cause then you’ll never actually be disappointed. Right?” The script notes: “A flicker of déjà vu on her [MJ’s] face…”

And that’s not the only piece of hope Marvel has given fans.

After Peter left the coffee shop in the script, some direction was noted to stay on MJ’s face. It reads: “HOLD ON MJ, watching Peter go with a lingering sense of… recognition?” If you recall MJ’s final words to Peter, she did say she would find him again.

Just before Peter’s existence was erased from history, MJ demanded: “You better [fix this]. If you don’t, I’m just gonna figure it out. I’ve done it before, I can do it again.”

Considering how integral MJ has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Spider-Man thus far, the thought of them removing Zendaya from the series seems extremely unlikely. Not to mention how Tom Holland and Zendaya are dating in real life, so they will likely not be keen to relinquish their roles anytime soon. However, Peter could still be saved by one lost member of the Avengers.

Just before Doctor Strange carried out the spell, he noted that everyone “on Earth” would forget who Peter Parker was. One of the first scenes in the film confirmed Nick Fury had been off-world for months. Does this mean he still remembers Peter? And if so, will he be able to fix his problem going forward?

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in cinemas now.

The Marvel franchise is available to watch on Disney Plus now.
