'Star Wars': A Fan-Favorite Villain Could Be Poised for a Major Comeback

Even after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans had a ton of questions about the sequel trilogy and its characters. Luckily, the novels and comics have cleared up many mysteries, including those involving the villainous Snoke (Andy Serkis). While Snoke himself was cut down in The Last Jedi, another popular Star Wars villain could be ready for a comeback.

The ‘Star Wars’ sequel trilogy received a divisive fan response

The recent Star Wars sequel trilogy started off promisingly enough. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill were back onboard. And aside from hewing too closely to A New Hope, The Force Awakens managed to reignite enthusiasm for the saga. After the divisive prequel trilogy, that achievement alone felt like a huge win for Star Wars.

Then The Last Jedi came two years later. While some fans consider Rian Johnson’s movie a high point for the saga, others believe it betrayed the foundation of George Lucas’ creation. As a result, the fan base was — much like Snoke himself — split in two. And The Rise of Skywalker only further aggravated the fandom. But Lucasfilm has a plan to double down.

Rumors claim one of the most popular characters could return

Although The Rise of Skywalker seemingly marked the end of the Skywalker saga, Star Wars fans could be in store for more of that bloodline soon. A new rumor from scooper Corey Van Dyke claims Lucasfilm wants to bring back Kylo Ren aka Ben Solo to the franchise. The character — played by Adam Driver — notably perished at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.

There’s no clear indication just yet if the project would be a movie or even a Disney+ series. In fact, Van Dyke didn’t even clarify what part of the character’s life would be covered. But a future project could explore Ben’s relationship with his Uncle Luke (Hamill) and fall to the Dark Side. Then again, that story was already covered by the recent Star Wars comics.

But Adam Driver is probably done playing Kylo Ren/Ben Solo on screen

Certainly, Kylo/Ben was among the most popular characters in the sequel trilogy. So it makes sense why Lucasfilm would be hoping to include him in its future plans. But the biggest reason why the company should leave him alone is exactly why he’s so effective in the movies.

Driver — much like Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac — has been fairly adamant about his disinterest in returning for more Star Wars. After all, Driver is an Oscar-nominated actor and has no need to continue playing in the “galaxy far, far away.”

Of course, many Star Wars characters have lived way past the performances that created them. But if any future Kylo/Ben appearance does come to pass, it will likely do so without Driver’s involvement. Will this affect Lucasfilm’s interest, or will Driver have a change of heart? We’ll see.
