Warning: Major spoilers for Stranger Things season 3 below.
Stranger Things season three introduced a number of new characters who have had a profound impact on viewers.
We’ve fallen in love with Priah Ferguson and Maya Hawke as Erica Sinclair and Robin respectively, but a certain Russian scientist has managed to capture the hearts of Netflix over viewers all over.
Yes, we’re talking about Alexei aka Smirnoff who is played by British-Ukrainian actor, Alec Utgoff.
The Jack Ryan actor has admitted he is ‘overwhelmed’ for all the love being heaped on to his portrayal of Alexei in the Duffer Brothers series.
‘I honestly never expected this reaction,’ he said.
Alec took part in a Reddit AMA yesterday where he answered fans’ burning Stranger Things questions.
When asked if he expected the response he’s gotten, he said: ‘I thought to myself if I get a few more followers and a couple of nice comments then I would be happy.
‘What was really touching is that people sent me messages about how they resonated emotionally with the character.
‘That was important to me because that’s what I try to do.’
Alec said he currently feels ‘very happy and thankful’ that he became a fan favourite so quickly.
He then joked: ‘Tomorrow I plan to become an ar*****e.’
Stranger Things fans were pretty much destroyed when Alexei was shot at the carnival at the finale.
The devastating moment saw Alexei win a prize and wander happily towards Murray (Brett Gelman) with his prize when he was mercilessly gunned down.
Pour a cherry Slurpee out for Alexei.
Stranger Things season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix.
