Les, 67, is one of the UK’s leading television entertainers and he gained a new legion of fans when he played Coronation Street resident Michael Rodwell from 2014 to 2016. The soap actor has also appeared in several celebrity reality shows over the years, including Celebrity Big Brother and BBC’s Celebrity MasterChef. However, it seems Strictly Come Dancing viewers could have also seen him shaking his hips on the dance floor when bosses came knocking a few years ago but will he have another chance at competing this year?

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the former soap star explained: “Funnily enough, I was approached for Strictly when I was in Coronation Street.

“And I couldn’t do it because it was the policy on Corrie that they didn’t let their actors go and do Strictly.

“That was a few years ago,” he added, before explaining he now feels there isn’t a lot of time left for him to compete because of his age.

But that said, the entertainer wouldn’t rule out the opportunity completely as he said: “I don’t know, I wouldn’t say never.

“I love the show. I think it’s a great show,” he commented, stating he wasn’t “anti-reality shows” so wouldn’t necessarily turn down the opportunity.

The cast list for this year’s season of the dance show won’t be officially released until later in the summer but could Les be one of the names on the 2021 line-up?

For now, the rumour mill is already going into overdrive as to which famous faces could be signing up to compete.

According to the latest odds from Coral bookmakers, The Masked Singer judge Davina McCall, 53, is one of the favourites to take part.

At 2/1, the former Big Brother presenter could swap judging singing to showcasing her moves on the dance floor.

Coral spokesperson John Hill said: “We are used to seeing Davina present reality TV shows, however, she may be a contestant herself this year on Strictly if the betting is anything to go by.”

Davina’s chances of winning the Glitterball Trophy and taking it from reining champion Bill Bailey, 56, also look quite good at 12/1.

“Davina has hinted at a Strictly appearances in the past and given some of the fitness challenges she has completed in the past, it would be no surprise to see her do quite well on the show,” Hill added.

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, 43, is another name doing the rounds in the latest whispers for the 2021 casting.

With several of his co-stars having competed in the past, it seems the journalist’s chances of taking part look quite good.

Currently, Dan stands at 2/1 to take part in the dance show and his odds of winning with Coral bookmakers are set at 16/1.

“The BBC Breakfast team have a good record on Strictly Come Dancing and Dan Walker could be the latest from the show to appear on the dancing contest this year,” Hill explained.

The pandemic caused several challenges to pulling off a show last year, with the season cut short and the number of celebrities competing rattled down.

However, head judge Shirley Ballas, 60, has offered some exciting news to fans about what’s to come for 2021.

The professional dancer said: “Just a little something: I heard they’re trying to do all 13 episodes this year.

“Last time we had nine. We’re trying to get 13 shows on. I think they’re getting used to the Covid thing,” she told Cameo.

Again, no official word has been given on how the format will play out later this year and how many celebrities will be competing.

Strictly Come Dancing is scheduled to return later this year on BBC One.
