The Duggar family spent more than a decade on TLC. The family’s two reality TV shows, 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, have afforded the family a rather luxurious lifestyle. In the years since they first appeared on TV, Jim Bob Duggar and his wife, Michelle Duggar, have amassed a huge real estate portfolio. Duggar family followers believe Jim Bob and Michelle are using that real estate portfolio to keep tight control over most of their children. Do you know how many of the Duggar kids still live in homes their father owns? It’s more than you might think.
How many of the Duggar kids live on Duggar-owned property
Jim Bob’s kids might have grown up, but most of them haven’t strayed far. Currently, 10 of the family’s 19 children have gotten married. Only four of them have secured their own housing, though. The majority of the married Duggars have come across the homes they live in through Jim Bob and Michelle.
Jim Bob and Michelle’s troubled eldest son, Josh Duggar, lived on the family’s Arbor Acres land until his arrest in April. His wife and six children still reside in a seemingly windowless warehouse on the property. Joseph Duggar and his wife, Kendra Caldwell, are currently living on the Duggar family compound in Springdale, Arkansas, too. Joe and Kendra have called a 2,000 square foot cabin home since they got married, but, according to Duggar Data, the deed belongs to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. Joe and Kendra own another house, but Kendra’s parents appear to be residing in that home.
John David Duggar and his wife Abbie Burnett also live on Duggar-owned property, but not on the family’s famous acreage. The mobile home they live in is parked on a parcel of land owned by Jim Bob and Michelle. Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth, were gifted a home on a large swath of land owned by Joy’s parents after they spent the first year of their marriage living in an RV. Jessa Duggar and her husband, Ben Seewald, also purchased property that has spent years in the Duggar family’s portfolio.
At least two Duggars are breaking Duggar family rules by renting
Jim Bob and Michelle have always insisted that they don’t believe in debt, and they don’t believe in owing people anything. They have prided themselves on owning property, and while they’ve never disparaged renting, they seem to prefer buying property. At least two of their children have ignored that lesson.
Josiah Duggar and his wife, Lauren Swanson, are currently renting a property in Lowell, Arkansas. According to property records, the home was purchased in 1997 by someone who doesn’t appear to have a connection to the Duggar family. Jinger Vuolo and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, are currently renting a house in North Hollywood, California. The couple sold their home in Laredo, Texas, to move to California and haven’t looked back. Jinger and Jeremy have never resided in a Jim Bob-owned residence.
Jill Dillard and Derick Dillard seem to be the only couple to buy a home without Jim Bob’s help so far
While the majority of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids still rely on them for help, the family’s surprise renegade has managed to make things work without their support. Jill Dillard and her husband, Derick Dillard, purchased a home in Lowell, Arkansas, in 2019. The couple moved into the home without the help of any of Jill’s family and have kept mostly to themselves.
While no one is sure where Derick and Jill got the money to buy the new construction home, family followers think Jill and Derick purchased the house with a legal settlement. In October 2020, Jill revealed to People that she had to sue her own family to access her Counting On earnings. Jill did not reveal the settlement amount. She remains mostly estranged from her parents.
Jedidiah Duggar and Justin Duggar are the two most recent newlyweds. Justin married Claire Spivey in February 2021. Jedidiah shocked followers when he married Katey Nakatsu weeks later without announcing a courtship. Their living situation, however, is unclear. Justin moved from Arkansas to Texas after his wedding day, but there is no word on where he and his bride live.
