Fan-favourite Dr Claire Browne (played by Antonia Thomas) will not be making a return to the San Jose St Bonaventure Hospital in upcoming season five. The actress left many fans in tears as she announced her sad departure from The Good Doctor.

Dr Claire Browne has been on screens since the first episode of The Good Doctor, which aired in 2017.

As the hospital’s surgical resident, Claire was working under the management of attending surgeon Dr. Neil Melendez and, as a series regular, she appeared in each episode.

This season fans watched as the surgical team from St Bonaventure hospital embarked on a trip to save lives.

The group flew to Guatemala to assist with multiple operations at an overwhelmed clinic.

In the season finale, Claire made the bold yet shocking decision to quit her job at the hospital and work at the Guatemala hospital full time.

With the Chief of Surgery Dr. Audrey Lim supporting her choice in the emotional scene, Claire hugged her colleagues goodbye as they went to board their plane.

This also marked Antonia’s last appearance on the show as Dr Claire Browne.

The actress took to Instagram to share her farewell post, which read: “It has been a privilege and pleasure to play Claire Browne and to be a part of such a wonderful show, working with such brilliant people.

“You couldn’t ask for a nicer work family than the @thegooddoctorabc @sptv cast and crew and I feel so lucky to call you all my friends.”

She added: “Thank you so much to the incredible fans who have been unwavering in their support- it has been so appreciated over the years.”

“I’m sad to leave but also excited for this next chapter. Wishing my @thegooddoctorabc family the very best for Season 5. Much love to you all.”
