The Handmaid’s Tale season 4: June dealt devastating blow as Nichole’s fate is revealed?

The Handmaid’s Tale season three left fans with mixed emotions as the series ended with baby Nichole safe and sound after June (played by Elisabeth Moss) sent her away with Emily (Alexis Bledel). However, June’s fate was left hanging in the balance after the was shot by the guards. Now it seems June is about to be dealt a devastating blow as Canada take Nichole once again.

Fans of the series will know that baby Nichole played a huge part in the mediations between Canada and the Republic of Gilead.

However, it seems the infant will be caught up in yet another political drama as Margaret Atwood’s new novel The Testaments sees her used as a pawn once again.

It seems things don’t quite go to plan and June is left with yet more heartbreak in the books.

With the show being heavily based upon the books, will showrunners follow suit and take baby Nichole away again?

Fans of the books will know the baby will go on to be a massive part of Gilead relations in the future.

Margaret Atwood’s latest instalment is set 15 years after the events of last season and tells the story from the perspective of Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) as well as both June’s daughters Hannah Bankole (Jordana Blake) and Nichole who are both grown up at this point.

Part way through the novel it is revealed that the speaker who goes by Daisy, is actually Nichole who grew up under a different name.

The novel sees her raised in another family, unaware she is actually the infant she has grown-up learning about in her school history lessons as a political turning point between the superpowers.

With bosses already confirming the book will be adapted for another series of the show, there is no doubt June’s mission and legacy will live on in the show.

However, will showrunners follow suit and take her daughter away?

The plot could see the introduction of two new characters should the storyline be followed in Hulu drama.

In the book Nichole is raised in Toronto by adoptive parents Neil and Melanie who own a clothing shop before she realises her true identity and becomes part of the Mayday project to take down Gilead.
