Sonnaz Nooranvary is the resident upholsterer on The Repair Shop and has featured on the BBC show since it began 2017. The expert uses her skills to breathe new life into damaged items belonging to guests who have long lost hope they’ll see their beloved pieces of furniture at their best again.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Sonnaz opened up on her experience on The Repair Shop.
The upholsterer admitted she often calls on her co-stars for help after being tasked with restoring a prized possession.
She explained: “You have to draw on all your years experience to get it looking fab and generally, they’re really difficult.
“It can be quite daunting and a lot of the stuff we’re doing for the first time.”

“But it’s about having that confidence I think to have a go,” Sonnaz continued.
“And also to know that your experience will get you through and also your judgement and creativity will get you through as well.
“I think it comes down to having the support around you.
“But also the confidence in your own sort of work and being able to ask people for help or their opinion if if you need it, which sometimes I absolutely do.”
The upholsterer is currently working with the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) to share advice on how to keep your home warm this winter.
Sonnaz revealed having “proper fitting curtains” can help trap heat and stop it from escaping.
She detailed: “[Make sure] your curtains are not falling and sitting in front of your radiator and if they do, having the confidence to have a go and rehem them so that they sit above the radiator.
“The best way for you to figure out how they’re done is to actually have a look at them and copy what is there exactly.

“So you’ll see that the hems can be just slip stitched or a running stitch closed and actually they’re quite simple techniques and it’s that old thing, isn’t it of the unknown and being scared to give it a go and have that confidence.”
The Repair Shop star revealed there are several cost-effective hacks renters can implement to reduce heat wastage this winter.
“Another really quick hack would be if you can move your room around so that you don’t have a sofa in front of your radiators,” Sonnaz said.
“If you move it to a different spot, you’ll gain a lot more heat and you won’t have to feel like you’ve got to turn it up more to feel the benefits.
“At the NRLA, when we were in the rag market, one of the big things that we spoke to people about and what we were giving away there was draft excluders.”
Very simple, very easy, not expensive to make or purchase,” she continued.
“If somebody wants to repurpose some fabrics or have some remnant fabric that they can use they can make one simply with a needle and thread and some teddy bear stuffing.
“That’s a really good way of stopping drafts from coming through doors.”
The Repair Shop continues on BBC One on Monday at 3.45pm.
