Over the years, Hollywood has given us plenty of celebrity couples. So many, in fact, there are probably tons of random celebrity couples you forgot — or never knew — dated. Mila Kunis and Macaulay Culkin, Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake, and Brody Jenner and Avril Lavigne are all some of the lesser-known and more peculiar couples to emerge from showbiz.
Another twosome to add to this list is Selma Blair and comedian Mikey Day. The actress and the Saturday Night Live alum dated way back in 2008 after meeting on the set of the TV show Kath & Kim, which also starred Molly Shannon, John Michael Higgins, Justina Machado, and Big Bang Theory‘s Melissa Rauch. According to Ace Showbiz, Blair played the character Kim, a 36-year-old divorcee on the search for love, and Day was cast as her estranged husband, Craig.
The pair’s on-screen chemistry turned into a real-life romance and they began dating shortly after. Keep scrolling to find out how long Blair and Day’s relationship lasted and why they waited until after Kath & Kim wrapped filming before getting together.
Selma Blair fell in love with Mikey Day
Selma Blair and Mikey Day dated for about a year before splitting up in 2009, according to Ranker. During their relationship, the couple was spotted showing off PDA in the ocean during a romantic day in Miami, Florida, on March 7, 2009, as well as attended numerous red carpet events together. At the time, the actress shared that she was “in love” with the “wonderful” and “funny” Saturday Night Live comedian.
“It’s never happened to me before but it happened, I fell in love,” Blair explained (via SF Gate). “I’ve never had a set romance. I think it makes work a lot more fun.” However, she revealed that they waited until after Kath & Kim finished filming before officially getting together. She continued, “We were really affectionate while we were shooting but we didn’t get together until filming wrapped, because we didn’t want it to be like, ‘Ooh, what if you don’t like me…?'”
It’s unclear why or when Blair and Day ended their relationship, but the actress eventually moved on with fashion designer Jason Bleick in 2010. A year later, People reported the two were expecting their first child — a baby boy — together. Ah, Hollywood.
