FANS of The Voice slammed tonight’s episode as “very amateur” due to “pre-historic” editing filters being added to each contestant’s performance.
Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, John Legend and Nick Jonas filmed remotely from their homes during the NBC series’ first show after the coronavirus pandemic.
Host Carson Daly, 46, taped in Los Angeles on a much smaller stage as a few selected crew members worked in the control room.
Blake, 43, filmed from his ranch in his home state of Oklahoma and got ready with the help of his pop star girlfriend.
“I just had the most expensive hair and makeup person on the planet just do that for me. Gwen Stefani – so I hope I look appropriate for this thing,” the country singer said.
When asked what the first thing he will do after lockdown has been lifted, John, 41, said from his LA mansion:
“I just want to go to a restaurant. I want to go out on a date, eat some good Italian food and just drink wine and not have to worry about getting sick, that’d be nice.”
Kelly, 38, admitted to quarantine struggles while isolating in Montana: “Being a working parent with three children running around has been challenging, but it’s alright.”
Nick, 27, told Carson from his LA residence: “It’s been bizarre as it has been for so many.
“But I feel really lucky to be home at a time when so many people are on the frontline doing what they can to help others.”
Contestants showed off their vocal talents from houses all over the country while getting critiqued by the coaches – who danced along on the side.
Dozens of fans video-chatted in while they watched each contestant to cheer along and add a clapping track for the performances.
During each song, production added extremely noticeable filters that were dragged for being “distracting” and “outdated.”
“Y'all.. @NBCTheVoice is out here making every one of these performances look like they were shot 30 years ago in a fog on a Nokia camera phone. These were pre-recorded not pre-historic,” one person tweeted.
Another wrote: “These filters are awful. Very amateur. Distracting.No more filters. Ugh.”
“Well intentioned but watching #TheVoice tonight I can’t help but feel like I’m watching #TikTok videos on TV,” another said of the popular social platform.
One viewer fired off: “#TheVoice got cocky and didn't do the stay at home performance justice Arie moon performance is a lame a** music video.”
“American Idol was able to actually able to get it together and pull it off Live. Not sure what the issue is here,” another tweeted of the series' rival competitor.
Last week’s American Idol marked the first show performed remotely from homes across the country.
Judges Katy Perry, 35, and Lionel Richie, 70, filmed from their houses in LA while Luke Bryan, 43, taped from his Nashville residence.
Ryan Seacrest, 45, kicked off the show and performed his hosting duties from his mansion in Los Angeles.
During each segment, one contestant at a time sang their song from home and in front of their family members – who can be heard cheering in the background.
After the song was over, Ryan would orchestrate the judges feedback as he watched on a multi-screen monitor.
Speaking directly into the camera, Lionel, Luke and Katy critiqued the performances as the Idol hopefuls listened through an ear-piece.
