For over two decades A Place in the Sun has helped families relocate and find their dream homes abroad. In one of the recent episodes of the Channel Four series, expert Jean Johansson hit back at a couple after they expressed concern following her expert advice and a tour of a potential property.

In Tuesday’s episode of A Place in the Sun, Jean was tasked with finding couple Lorraine and John a traditional holiday home in Spain.

The property had to have two bedrooms, a large living space and a short walk from their favourite town, Competa.

Lorraine added: “Typically Spanish house, with lots of original features, minimum of two bedrooms, one bathroom.”

However, during the episode after being given a tour of a property, the couple expressed their minor concerns to which Jean hit back: “I think I’ve done well.”

At the beginning of the episode, it was made aware this wasn’t the first time the couple had been property hunting in the area.

As Jean asked: “John and Lorraine welcome back to Axarquia, what is it that keeps bringing you back?”

John revealed: “It’s just a small thing about the view,” as Lorraine interjected, “We’ve always had a dream to have a holiday home abroad.”

While John added: “We’re getting closer to retirement, now is as good a time as any, so that’s why we are here.”

It was later revealed, finding a suitable property for the couple was going to be a challenge for Jean, as they had already viewed 30 homes in the area.

Adding to their list of requirements, Lorraine stated: “It would have to have outdoor space, it’s very important to us that it’s got a view, that would be the icing on the cake if the house had a sea view.”

The couple had a budget of £110,000, however, if the property was right they were capable of increasing it to £130,000.

The first home they saw was a townhouse with two bedrooms and two bathrooms in Competa, on the market for £112,000.

The couple were so impressed with the house and surprised at how quickly Jean was able to find the property.

However, they didn’t continue with the process as they had concerns about a building site, which ruined their view.

As the search continued, Jean found them another townhouse with two bedrooms at £137,069.

After a tour of the property, Lorraine shared: ”It had so much character, there’s so much originality with it, I really, really like it.”

She continued: “But there was only one concern with it, wasn’t there John.”

“Just the bedroom, there’s no window in there,” he disclosed, “the other bedrooms got a possibility for that.”

“So I have to be honest if your only concern with this house is not having a window in the bedroom, then I think I’ve done quite well,” Jean hit back.

Lorraine confirmed: “Yes, I think you’ve done really well, that’s number one definitely,” to which John added: “You’ll have to go a long way to beat it.”

By the end of the episode, the couple left without a home, as they pulled out of a deal after going back and forth with the seller for a better deal.

A Place in the Sun continues weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
