This Morning’s Dr Ranj Singh slams ‘victim-shaming’ after he’s mugged

This Morning star Dr Ranj Singh has hit out at those victim-shaming him after he was mugged following the Brit Awards.

The TV doctor, who also appears on Good Morning Britain and Lorraine, shared his terrifying ordeal on Instagram after attending the star-studded awards ceremony on Tuesday.

Following the main event at London’s O2 Arena, Dr Ranj hit the town in central London like many other celebrities however, he was accosted by a thief when leaving the Soho area. His watch was stolen but he was fortunately unharmed in the incident.

In an update on Thursday, Dr Ranj wrote in his Instagram stories: ‘No-one goes out asking to be mugged.

‘Victim-shaming is never a good look. It’s akin to telling someone who has been sexually assaulted that they shouldn’t post pictures of themselves in certain outfits online.

‘Focus on the person who did wrong here.’

He added: ‘I sincerely hope the person who stole my watch did so because they were desperate.

‘But it won’t make me change how I live my life or what I post online – I’ll just be more aware when I’m out.’

Dr Ranj, 42, had earlier thanked fans for their support and said: ‘I just wanted to say a really quick thank you for all your lovely comments and messages about what happened last night.

‘I wasn’t going to say anything because to be honest I do feel a little bit silly and a bit embarrassed but if it means that somebody else is a bit more careful or it stops it happening to someone else then it’s worth it.’

The medical expert confirmed he has reported the incident to the police and said it ‘could have been much worse’.

In his original message, Dr Ranj explained that he’d had the ‘best night’ at the glitzy awards bash but explained how he was approached by a man as he walked to his taxi. He said it all ‘happened so quickly’ but that he ‘foolishly’ chased after the man who ‘got away’, and regrets doing so.

‘I now know that’s not a good idea as sometimes these people will lead you into a trap,’ he said.

‘I wasn’t going to say anything because I felt stupid and a little bit embarrassed, but after speaking to some friends I thought it might just serve as a reminder: please be careful when coming home at night, even in spaces you think are safe.’

He concluded: ‘Look out for each other peeps.’
