The BBC announced it will adapt writer Frank Tallis’ Vienna novels in a series titled Vienna Blood. Matthew Beard will lead the cast as lead character Doctor Max Liebermann. Express.co.uk brings you all the details on Vienna Blood’s release date, cast, trailer and plot.

When is Vienna Blood out?

The full release date for Vienna Blood has not yet been revealed by the BBC.

However, in August the network confirmed the show would air this year on BBC Two.

The series will have three feature-length episodes, which are expected to air weekly.

Who is in the cast of Vienna Blood?

The Imitation Game’s Matthew Beard plays Max Liebermann, described by the BBC as: “A brilliant young English doctor, studying under the famed psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.

“Max’s extraordinary skills of perception and forensics, and his deep understanding of human behaviour and deviance, help [him] solve some of Vienna’s most mysterious and deadly cases.”

He will work to solve crimes with Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt, played by Austrian author Jürgen Maurer.

Other cast members include Game of Throne’s Conleth Hill, Ripper Street’s Charlene McKenna and Gentleman Jack’s Amelia Bullmore.

What will happen in Vienna Blood?

The plot of the series will be based on the first three novels in the Vienna series by Frank Tallis.

These are 2005’s A Death in Vienna, 2006’s Vienna Blood and 2008’s Fatal Lies.

The first of these sees them investigating the death of a medium, the second sees Max drawn into the world of a secret society, while Fatal Lies sees a cadet from a military school die.

The series is set in 19th century Vienna among the world of psychoanalysis.

Is there a trailer for Vienna Blood?

No promo for Vienna Blood has been released yet by the BBC.

However, if the series is airing this year, we are likely to get a preview within the next few weeks.

The BBC has also released first-look images which see Oskar and Max in action.
