Season six of Vikings could feature one last appearance of its original protagonist Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmel) according to some perceptive fans.
Ragnar’s reign came to an end when he was killed at the end of season four, with the rest of the series focusing on Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) fulfilling his father’s legacy.
The series hasn’t been on screens since the midseason finale, The Best Laid Plans, delivered a devastating cliffhanger back in February.
Following the tragic loss of Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) from the series, her son Bjorn was ambushed and potentially killed by his half-brother rival, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen).

As Ivar and the Rus close in on Vestfold, Bjorn’s hopes of survival seemed lost as the first half of season six came to a close earlier this year.
However, in the run-up to the final ten episodes of the History Channel original series, a revealing teaser trailer may have sealed his victory against the invading forces.
The intriguing clips featured Ivar appearing shocked and declaring ‘it’s not possible!’
Fans then saw an unknown figure approaching Ivar, brandishing the iconic sword of Ragnar Lothbrok.
Although the mysterious attacker is assumed to be Bjorn, making one last ditch attempt to strike back at his foe, some viewers have speculated season 6b could see the return of Ragnar.
The Viking hero’s return would certainly be an exciting way to cap off seven years of thrilling historical action, and the trailer has sparked furious debates amongst fans.
Over on Reddit, one viewer proposed: “It’s bad writing but I’d have no problem if they brought back Ragnar with some bs like Odin sent him from Valhalla.”
After the deaths of the series’ two most iconic characters, Ragnar and Lagertha, it’s been heavily speculated both Fimmel and Winnick could make a surprise cameo before the series comes to an end.

As the somewhat fantastical series hasn’t ventured into resurrections so far, it was initially assumed that, if they showed up at all, it would be in the Viking afterlife, Valhalla.
On the other hand, the reveal of the giant serpent Jörmungandr in the new trailer confirms the final season is embracing the more supernatural elements of Norse mythology and could bring some fan favourites back from the dead.
Another fan argued: “I think it’s Bjorn back to fighting potential after grievous wounds.”
Though they also conceded: “But the fantasy elements of the show, with that leviathan reveal, open the possibility of gods doing god power things and bringing him back…we can all hope.”
Vikings’ upcoming release schedule underwent a major shake-up for its last instalment.
Amazon Prime recently confirmed they have exclusive rights to release the rest of season six on December 30, before the series eventually returns to original network the History Channel.
With less than a month to go before all ten episodes drop on the streaming service, it’s only a matter of time before Bjorn’s fate is finally revealed.
Vikings Season 6, Part 2 will be released on Wednesday, December 30 on Amazon Prime Video.
