The Marvel Cinematic Universe hit pause in 2020, but it has officially returned with the Disney+ streaming series WandaVision. While Marvel fans have been hotly anticipating the new offering, some are a bit frustrated by the release schedule.
Though some would prefer to binge it in one sitting, Disney has opted to release it on a weekly basis. For some viewers, this represents a problem.

We last left Wanda Maximoff and Vision in Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, respectively. At the conclusion of Infinity War, Wanda was forced to kill Vision to keep an Infinity Stone from Thanos. Unfortunately, Thanos used the Time Stone to reverse time, bring Vision back to life, and then kill him right in front of her. Wanda got her revenge when she returned in Endgame, helping the rest of the Avengers defeat Thanos.
WandaVision takes these two Avengers into the setting of classic sitcoms. The two soon realize that something is amiss. Beyond that, not much is known about the show, and fans won’t be able to find out the entire story until the last episode is released.
How is it that Vision has returned from the dead? What exactly is happening? These are all questions for which the answers will have to wait.
What is the release schedule for ‘WandaVision?’
Disney released the first two episodes of the show on January 15. It was the first new MCU content released since Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic halted Marvel’s rather ambitious Phase Four slate of material. Black Widow’s standalone film was supposed to be the first MCU film released to kick off the latest phase, but that was postponed until 2021 as well. Originally, WandaVision was set to be released in November 2020, but Disney pushed it back to January.
According to CNET, the show will begin airing one episode each week starting on January 22. This matches the same weekly release schedule Disney used for its other popular streaming series, The Mandalorian. It’s a departure from what other streaming shows offer.
Typically, when Netflix releases a new show, they put all episodes out at once. Fans are then free to indulge in an entire season’s worth in one or two days if they like. With this release schedule, Disney is forcing fans to be a bit more patient.
So how are viewers responding to this? The truth is that not all of them like it.
How fans are reacting to ‘WandaVision’s’ schedule
After waiting more than a year for new MCU material, some have become a bit impatient now that WandaVision has debuted. Marvel fans took to Reddit to discuss the show, and one person said that they’re trying to figure out if they should just wait to binge it. They don’t know if they have the willpower:
“I’m debating whether or not I have the patience to wait till all the episodes are out or not. I hate watching shows weekly, but I don’t think I can wait that long when some content is available in 6 days.”
It’s an interesting question that signals a new era in how we watch TV. The popularity of binge-watching is evident, but will some fans be able to wait to consume the entire season in one sitting? Perhaps not. The excitement over seeing the MCU’s latest may prove too great of a challenge.
No matter how people choose to watch it, the real winners here are Marvel and Disney. They know they have a property so popular on their hands that no matter how they decide to release it, people will watch.
