Why does Taylor Swift want to re-record her old songs?

TAYLOR Swift was devastated when she learned Scooter Braun had purchased the rights to her old songs, but it seems the pop star will have the last laugh after all.

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Taylor confirmed that she’s re-recording her previous material to regain the masters to some of her biggest hits – but how will it work? Here’s the lowdown…

How did Scooter Braun obtain rights to Taylor Swift’s discography?

Back in June, it was announced that Braun had made a deal with Big Machine Label Group that would see Taylor’s discography rights shifted over to the executive’s Ithaca Holdings company, which she says was her “worst-case scenario”.

Taylor made her opinion heard via social media, claiming that she had been bullied by Braun and his industry peers and that her song rights being sold to his company was a shady move that she had no acknowledgment of until the day of the announcement.

“Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world”, she explained on her Tumblr page back in June.

“All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.

“Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it”.

What has she said about re-recording her music?

Taylor revealed in an upcoming interview with CBS Sunday Morning that she will definitely be looking to re-record her previous material.

CBS Reporter Tracy Smith had questioned the former country artist why she wouldn’t just take the aforementioned approach in order to regain control over her masters, to which the singer responded, "Oh yeah”.

"That's a plan?" Smith asked.

"Yeah, absolutely". Swift said.

The full interview is expected to air on August 25, with Taylor Swift opening up about the situation that caused her to miss out on the chance of purchasing the rights to her own music before Scooter beat her to it.
