Emmerdale continues to air on ITV and the much-loved soap waved off a fan-favourite resident. In tonight’s (January 14) episode, Tracy Metcalfe (played by Amy Walsh) was offered a new job opportunity in Nottingham. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about why the actress is leaving.

Why is Amy Walsh leaving Emmerdale as Tracy Metcalfe?

Tracy first appeared on the soap back in 2014 when she decided to meet Sam Dingle (James Hooton) face to face.

The pair had been chatting online and she used a fake name to meet Sam.

The Guest Liasion at The Grange B&B conned Sam out of money before leaving the village.

A year later she made a comeback and attempted to turn her life around, but it did not always go to plan.

In the latest scenes, she was invited to speak at a seminar on postnatal depression.

This came after the birth of her own child, Frankie Robinson.

After opening up about her experiences, she was asked if she was interested in joining the charity.

She weighed up the options as, at first, she did not feel experienced enough.

However, with a yearning to help others and make amends for her past, she accepted the role.

In an emotional goodbye, she hugged her friends and family, leaving Nate (Jurell Carter) heartbroken.

As for why the actress is leaving the series, she is now on her maternity leave.

Walsh had been expecting her first child with EastEnders partner Toby-Alexander Smith.

On January 2 she shared an Instagram post of herself with Smith, looking over a pram.

She said: “Well…it’s been a busy week! Hope you all had a good one. HAPPY NEW YEAR from the three of us xxx”

Walsh said she had planned a small meal with some of her Emmerdale co-stars to say goodbye.

She recently celebrated her baby shower with some familiar faces on the show.

The 34-year-old had been gearing up to welcome her little one with the Gray Atkins star.

Now she can spend more time bonding with her new family, without the pressures of work.

Walsh said she connected with her character as she is passionate about making change.

She said: “That’s what drives her forward in changing her life so much in the sense of leaving the village and leaving Nate and taking Frankie, because it’s a chance not only for her to feel good about herself and change her life, but also to not rely on another man to let her down again.

“But it’s also a chance for her to help other people.

“It’s the first time she feels like there’s something she could be good at, which I think is really important because she needs that.”

As for whether she will return, the door seems to have been left open for Tracy in the future.

There is a chance she could move back or even swing by for a visit to check on her loved ones.

This definitely may not be the last fans see of Tracy.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
