Wilderness: Official trailer
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Wilderness.
Wilderness’ director has opened up on the reality of filming and why it wasn’t always an easy process.
From the outside looking in, Liv (played by Jenna Coleman) and Will (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) appear to be the perfect couple, having moved to New York for his work.
This is until Liv discovers Will’s affair and wants to get her secret revenge during their “dream” trip visiting America’s National Parks.
But things take an unexpected turn when his mistress Cara (Ashley Benson) and her boyfriend Garth (Eric Balfour) show up and join them for part of their holiday.
While the beauty of the outdoors is unmeasurable, shooting in Vancouver did cause an issue when two surprise guests arrived on set.

Creator Marnie Dickens explained to Express.co.uk: “On one of the days I was out, sadly I couldn’t be there the whole time, was a bear, a bear came on set.
“We had a heavy, heavy, heavy health and safety briefing and the rule is if you see a bear, you’re meant to shout ‘bear’ and then lie down.
“Who’s going to come running when you shout ‘bear’ and is it going to be OK when I lie down?
“When we broke for lunch, two bears came, a mama bear and a baby bear, tore down the water tank and had a big ol’ meal.”

But from director So Yong Kim’s perspective, the appearance of the bear wasn’t the most challenging part.
“I think for us overall the prep time was the most rigorous and intense and stressful,” she said.
“I think once production started, of course, it was the day-to-day of dealing with problems but I think the anticipation and preparing for every case scenario, would could possibly go wrong, was very intense.
“For instance, we never would have guessed a bear would be an element that we really worry about.
“But for us, overall, the prep time was super intense.”
Wilderness is based on the 2019 book of the same name by author BE Jones.
The limited series came out on Friday, September 15, with all six episodes dropping in one go.
As the drama is based on the novel, it’s unlikely that it will make a comeback for a second outing.
Wilderness is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
