Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard underwent surgery after he ruptured his ACL, tore his meniscus and injured his leg while playing football. Ahead of the show today, Susanna Reid, 50, shared a backstage snap of her co-star smiling for the camera behind-the-scenes as he read through the script.

The 46-year-old presenter was seen wearing a face shield and casual clothes as he rested his legs up on the sofa.

Just below his shorts, his bandage and scarred leg could be seen.

Sharing the picture on Twitter, Susanna wrote: “Ben’s back! Bandaged up but ready to go @gmb.”

Ben also shared his co-star’s picture, writing: “Ahhh forget being double jabbed, what about a double dose of Ben!

“@susannareid100 you don’t know how lucky you are. Lovely to be back, feet up and all!”

Many of his followers flocked to his post to welcome him back.

One wrote: “Tipping Point and GMB – How lucky we all are Ben Shephard? You are a great TV presenter – Who else agrees?”

A second added: “The human form of sunshine. Glad you are back Ben.”

“So good to see him back,” a third commented.

The presenting duo discussed Ben’s injury on the show this morning.

The father-of-two told viewers he was resting his leg under the desk as he tried to get comfortable.

Susanna said: “You look slightly uncomfortable – I’m just going to get the mini cam.”

The host then gave viewers a close-up shot of Ben’s leg as she zoomed in.

He added of his return: “I just thought, I’ve been off for a few weeks, I’m going to start bringing in the changes!

“I feel like I should be able to do the show with my feet up!”

Ben added that he hurt his leg during a football match while pretending to be a “25-year-old”.

The Tipping Point star had previously given fans an insight into his hospital stay before and after he had his operation.

Ben shared a picture of his leg wrapped up in a bandage as he laid on his bed earlier this month.

He told fans: “So they’ve repaired the ACL and meniscus and now starts the rehab – very slow, long, rehab.

“Have to say, the painkillers seem to be doing the job right now!”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am.
