Britney Spears has dropped a major clue that she’s set to perform alongside Elton John at Glastonbury this weekend.

Music legend Elton, 76, is set to headline the iconic Pyramid Stage on Sunday, with his husband David Furnish recently hinting the the singer will be joined by four surprise guests.

And in a new Instagram post, Britney – who had been heavily rumoured to be joining Elton – shared a cryptic post that could well mean that she’ll be donning her wellies and heading to Worthy Farm.

Taking to her social media on Thursday, the Baby One More Time hitmaker, 41, uploaded a picture of an apple carved into what looks to be the St. George’s flag.

In addition, she captioned the post with three Union Jack emoji’s, no doubt sending the rumour mills further into overdrive.

The star also shared a portrait of a McDonalds meal alongside more Union Jack flags, further teasing the collaboration.

Britney previously joined forces with Elton on their 2022 track Hold Me Closer, her first track since her 13-year conservatory ended.

In September last year, Elton said in an interview that he was keen to ‘help boost Britney’s confidence’ and hopes the duet ‘will be the momentum’ for Britney to record new music.

Elton said that he was ‘so happy for her, because it’s got her back to what she’s famous for, being a singer and an artist.’

The Toxic singer is thought to be enjoying a holiday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with husband Sam Asghari, but it doesn’t mean to say she couldn’t hop on a flight to the UK in time for a performance on Sunday.

After all, she did recently send fans wild after sharing a conveniently-timed post announcing she was headed to London for a ‘shopping trip- – though she’s since deleted that post.

It comes after David Furnish revealed Elton is set to have four surprise guests performing in his Glastonbury headline show – his last UK performance which will bring an end to his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

Speaking to Sky News presenter Beth Rigby, David said he’s ‘sworn to secrecy’ on the identity of the mystery acts, but described Elton’s headline slot as ‘very special.’

It comes amid huge speculation that Harry Styles could be one of the mystery names taking to the stage, after fans noted that there was a perfect gap in his own tour to make room for a surprise appearance.

Other rumoured names include Dua Lipa, Rina Sawayama and Lil Nas X, who is already booked to perform at the festival right before him.

David said: ‘Four collaborators of his choosing. People, he just thought, ‘I’d really like to do something with these artists at Glastonbury’. And that’s all I’m going to say’.

Asked who they might be, Furnish added: ‘Sorry. I am sworn to secrecy’.

‘This one is very special. It is not just another day in office,’ David told Beth. ‘It’s a different setlist – it’s a huge outdoor live festival.

‘He’s got four different collaborators joining him on stage at different times, who I won’t name, sorry.

‘So, he’s done a lot of changes. A lot on his plate, so I think he’s anxious. Yeah, but I think good, anxious, healthy anxious.’

David added that despite the end of Elton’s farewell tour, he has no plans to retire completely, and will be working on a new album in the autumn.

He joked: ‘I don’t think he’ll be sitting on the sofa with a remote control.

‘He’s going to go back into the studio in October and start his next album. Which will be great. He’s not done a studio album in a long time.’

The festival – which takes place from June 21-25 at Somerset’s Worthy Farm, will see the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age, Skepta and The Chemical Brothers joining the already confirmed headline acts.

Glastonbury’s other headliners are Arctic Monkeys on Friday and Guns and Roses on Saturday.

The other stage will be headlined by Wizkid, Lana Del Rey and Queens of the Stone Age over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Elton John will perform on the Pyramid Stage on Worthy Farm, the stage was first set up in 1971 and has held some impressive acts.

Glastonbury Festival described the stage as ‘the most instantly recognised festival stage in the world’.

The iconic stage has had quite the line-up featuring: The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Shirley Bassey and many more.

David Bowie delivered one of the most memorable Glastonbury performances on the stage in 2000.

In an interview with BBC London, John admitted that he was ‘a little intimidated’  by the prospect of performing on the stage.

He said: ‘I’m a little, not frightened, but I’m a little intimidated by it because I haven’t played there, I haven’t been there before.’
