Former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has admitted that she is suffering from serious mum guilt for leaving her son to travel to London whilst she trains for the hit show BBC Strictly Come Dancing.
Catherine 36, is currently commuting from Manchester and leaving her four year old son Alfie with his dad Tom Pitford. Speaking to new! magazine, Catherine said: “After the second or third night [away], I do miss him so much. We FaceTime all the time."
Even though she is missing her son, Catherine has admitted that she has enjoyed the break from being a busy mum as she said: "Mind you, the first night away is quite nice, to be honest!
“You know how it is when you’re a mum and you’re running around all the time. Tom phoned me one night and said ‘Are you alright’ and I was like, ‘It’s a struggle, but I’m getting there, babe.’ I’d booked a massage and I was having a lovely time.”
The star is relieved that Alfie is now old enough to understand her career. She said: "You know, Alfie's four now and he's old enough now to understand that Mummy works away, and he loves Strictly, so it’s fine”.
While Catherine has described her Strictly experience as “amazing”, she revealed that she turned down a spot on the show last year.
She revealed: “They asked me last year but it wasn’t the right time because I needed to be with my family after doing Corrie for so long and before that I wasn’t allowed because of Corrie. But this is definitely the right time. It’s perfect”.
Speaking to The Sun Online, Catherine said that her weight stopped her from pursuing her dancing dream when she was younger.
“I’ve always wanted to dance” she revealed. "It was something that I shied away from when I was younger. I was terrified of it. I was so much bigger, so I didn’t have the confidence.
"I’m a huge Strictly fan, when the opportunity came up I couldn’t say no. I’m not a duck to water but I’m having an amazing time.”
Catherine, who played Eva Price on the long running ITV soap, is paired up with pro dancer Johannes Radebe and is confident she will not fall foul of the infamous Strictly curse as her whole family are enamoured with Johannes, including son Alfie.
“My family are thrilled to bits”, she told radiotimes.com. “My little boy is obsessed with Johannes as he lifts him up over his head and spins him around. He’s just loving it.
“Everyone has fallen in love with Johannes. Everyone adores him as he’s just hilarious, but he’s a phenomenal teacher, a professional dancer and patience is the key with me.
"We’re just having the best time and I'm really grateful to be partnered with Johannes as we get on so well. We just clicked from day one. He understands me and his teaching technique and personality. I’m really lucky to be with Johannes.”

Aside from missing her son, one of the other downsides of appearing on Strictly is that all the rehearsals and training she has to do for the show is taking its toll.
“I’m bruised like a peach. I’m covered – I’m black and blue”, Catherine revealed.
She recently took to Instagram to reveal that she sustained an unfortunate injury while training for the first Strictly Come Dancing live Show.
Nursing a foot injury she spoke about the issue to her Instagram followers, saying: “I’ve lost a toenail from rehearsing too much. R.I.P toenail, no more gel toes they’ve gone!”
She then went on to reassure her fans that she wasn’t in any pain, although her toe wasn't very nice to look at. She said: “It’s fine, not in any pain, it just looks minging. Hope there’s not any close ups of my feet other than that I’m off my face excited, I will report back later Team KatJo!” [sic]
Talking about the intense training, she told BBC Breakfast that there is an aspect of rehearsals that she has struggled to cope with – all the spinning around.
She said: “Do you know what? I’m loving it and my partner Johannes is just phenomenal in every way. I’m extremely nervous and I’m doing the Viennese Waltz. Which makes me feel very sick. I’m actually taking travel sickness tablets because of the spinning!”
