Innuendo Bingo finally reaches its climax after 13 years on Radio 1 'cos Covid'

They say you never know what you’ve got until it’s gone – so today, we’re remembering Innuendo Bingo.

The signature BBC Radio 1 staple has sadly been axed after 13 years, ‘cos Covid’, and considering the game involves Chris Stark being repeatedly spat on by people that are not members of his household, we can understand why it’s being put to bed.

The coronavirus pandemic means that the game has finally reached its climax, with Maya Jama’s episode of Innuendo Bingo today being its last on Radio 1.

Chris Stark tweeted: ‘Going to be a Hard One today…’ while former competitor Greg James said watching old clips ‘made me miss the old days when we could all gob on each other. An all-time great feature. It always left me smiling and satisfied…’

Innuendo Bingo began back in 2007, with Scott Mills reading out some of radio’s funniest accidental innuendos from the week.

However, at some point, the team decided to step things up a notch and add in some water.

Every episode, Chris was teamed up with a celebrity, with the pair sitting opposite each other and told by Scott to fill up their mouths with water before every recording.

Scott would then play the gaffes, both new and classic, resulting in Chris and the celebrity guest spitting water all over each other at the punchline.

Turns out, all it takes is a pandemic to make you realise how unhygienic it was.

Grossness aside, Innuendo Bingo delivered us some hysterical moments over the years, so before the last mouthful of water is sprayed, take a walk down a very wet memory lane and remember the game’s funniest moments.

Longtime fan Lewis decided to rename Innuendo Bingo ‘Two young studs get wet’ to get more clicks on the video.

But when you have Chris and Lewis practically choking when they hear ‘I really enjoyed eating Natasha’s trifle’, who needs clickbait?

One of the all-time greats.

We can’t decide which is better – ‘penetrate your bolthole’ or ‘never seen a 100 metre gash’.

Hugh Jackman

With Kylie Minogue standing in for Scott, we’re not quite sure how Radio 1 managed to get Australian royalty to commit to a game involving being spat on, but we’re very grateful.

Will Ferrell

Scott later admitted that it was ‘touch and go’ as to whether they could convince Will’s PR to let him play the game, but we’re so glad it happened.

Emily Atack

Emily and Chris’s knees were touching at the beginning of the game, resulting in some very explosive spitting.

RIP her mascara.

Davina McCall

Davina announced she was ‘in heaven’ playing Innuendo Bingo, and after that ‘submissive black hole’ gaffe, we don’t blame her for going into hysterics.
