The beauty vlogger reveals that he is now ‘generally in a really good place mentally’ as he ‘definitely wasn’t before’ when recalling his past feud with James Charles, Tati Westbrook and Shane Dawson.
AceShowbiz –Jeffree Star has learned a lesson or two from his “childish” YouTube scandals. When looking back at his controversial past, the famed beauty vlogger admitted in his new interview that he is now “really focused on positivity” after some “self-reflection.”
Speaking to E!’s Daily Pop about his past feuds involving other YouTubers, including James Charles, Tati Westbrook and Shane Dawson, the 35-year-old beauty guru candidly confessed that he’s “really focused on positivity” now. He added further, “I know that may sound like a crock of s**t from one of the most dramatic people in the makeup industry, but I’m generally in a really good place mentally, and I definitely wasn’t before.”
“That’s just really not me anymore,” Jeffree went on to claim. “I think that’s kind of hard for people to understand because I was in a lot of drama and a lot of it wasn’t my doing,” the makeup mogul remembered. “A lot of it was me entertaining things that I shouldn’t have, and acting childish and stupid and letting emotions get the best of me.”
When asked to share his thoughts on his reputation as a “controversial” figure within YouTube’s beauty community, Jeffree replied, “I definitely think it’s fair.” On the reasons why, the CEO of Jeffree Star Cosmetics weighed in, “Because I used to entertain and respond to so much, even though I probably shouldn’t have.”
Back in May 2019, Jeffree himself vowed to change his behavior amid the drama which involved Tati and James. At the time, the YouTube personality shared a video on his huge platform, titled “Never doing this again.” In the footage, he went on to stress that he was “embarrassed by my own actions.” He continued, “I could have handled things differently… what I should have done is vented all my feelings to James.”
“I know Tati got to do that. She had private conversations. I didn’t do that. I should have been mature enough to say, ‘Hey, I love and care about you. I’ve heard x, y, and z about you. I’ve seen some things I didn’t like. Here’s my feelings.’ But guess what, I didn’t. And that’s my first mistake,” Jeffree explained. Near the end of his 13-minute video, he said, “Everyone has to heal and this has to stop. I’m going to take a little mental vacation because I think we all need one.”
The drama started during the first weekend of Coachella when James promoted Sugar Bear Hair supplements, which is a huge competitor to Tati’s hair supplement company, Halo Beauty. She then accused him of being unsupportive and admitted to feeling betrayed.
James had apologized for that, but Tati didn’t buy it as she posted a 43-minute video titled “Bye, Sister” exposing his behavior and announced that she would be cutting ties with him. In the clip, she also revealed that both Jeffree and Shane were the ones who “gaslit” her into making the video.
