Elizabeth Hurley marks one year since death of ex Shane Warne with sweet memory

Elizabeth Hurley has paid touching tribute to her former fiancé Shane Warne, marking a year since the late cricket legend’s death.

The actress, 57, was previously engaged to the Australian cricket star, and in a relationship with him from 2011 to 2013.

They remained close following their breakup, with The Royals star heartbroken by the sport star’s sudden death last year.

Warne died in March 2022 at the age of 52 from a heart attack, with Hurley saying at the time she felt as though ‘the sun has gone behind a cloud forever.’

On Saturday night, Hurley took to Instagram with a heartbreaking memory of their time as a couple.

Posting a picture of the two of them crouched down by a bridge railing and smiling at the camera on the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, she wrote: ‘A year without Shane. You’ll be missed forever. I hope our padlock is still there ❤️’

The mum-of-one was posing with a padlock in her hand that the couple had attached to the pedestrian footbridge in the French capital, with the romantic tradition something that the bridge has become famous for over the years.

However, it’s something that has now had a stop put to it back in 2015, after city officials began to fear the crushing extra weight from all the metal ‘lovers’ locks’ for the structure.

Hurley’s model and director son Damian, 20, commented underneath her picture: ‘💔 I love you Mama xxx’

Back in December, the Bedazzled actress opened up on her grief over losing her ‘great love’, admitting to The Times that it is still ‘very hard.’

‘Losing Shane was terrible,’ she said.

‘It’s taken a long time to sink in.

‘I honestly kept thinking he’d call and it would turn out to be some big Aussie joke,’ adding it ‘was very hard and it still is very hard.’

Hurley has also had to deal with loss previously, as the biological father of her only son, Stephen Bing, took his own life in 2020.

‘Of the four great loves of my life two are dead – I always say to the other two, you’d better watch your backs,’ she joked.

‘Losing Stephen [Bing] was something else completely. We’d been estranged for so long but made up towards the end, and a bright and different future looked as if it was opening up, but of course it didn’t,’ she reflected.

Hurley said Bing’s death was a ‘mental challenge’ for Damian, who had never known his biological father and called his stepfather, Arun Nayar, ‘dad’; Hurley was married to the businessman and the pair were together from 2002 to 2010.

Warne, meanwhile, was ‘a fun uncle figure’ to her son.

Hurley has remained close with all her exes, including Hugh Grant, who she was with for 13 years, saying that otherwise ‘breaking up would be like losing a family member.’

The Austin Powers star formed a close bond with Warne’s three children Brooke, Summer and Jackson during their relationship, and sent them support following their father’s death.
