“The Bachelor” franchise might finally have its first same-sex couple.
In a trailer for the upcoming season of “Bachelor in Paradise,” contestant Demi Burnett is seen making out with a woman.
“I don’t care who sees this,” says Burnett, 24, who was introduced to Bachelor Nation earlier this year as a contestant on Season 23 of “The Bachelor” with Colton Underwood.
It’s a groundbreaking step for the dating show, which up until now has focused on only heterosexual couples.
But it’s also unclear how “Bachelor in Paradise” — where men and women couple up to stay in the game, in whatever exotic locale the show uses as a set each season — would change its format to accommodate a same-sex couple.
“I know that I love this girl,” Burnett says in the clip. “I’m just so happy that I found her. I can definitely picture being with her for the rest of my life.”
Even as she competed for Underwood’s hand in the season that aired from January to March of this year, Burnett was quick to come out online when the “Bachelor in Paradise” teaser dropped during Monday Night’s “Men Tell All” episode of “The Bachelorette.”
“Spoiler alert: I’m a queer queen,” tweeted Burnett, adding a rainbow emoji.
Inevitably, drama lies in wait. The teaser also showed Burnett hooking up with Derek Peth — from Season 12 of “The Bachelorette” with Jojo Fletcher — and crying several times.
The blond woman who stole Burnett’s heart was not identified in the video. Out of the cast members who have been announced so far, it could be Annaliese Puccini, Caelyn Miller-Keyes, Hannah Goodwin, Nicole Lopez Alavar or Tayshia Adams.
“Bachelor in Paradise” airs Monday, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
