Eight times Meghan Markle proved she’s more like you than you realise

Meghan Markle and husband Prince Harry have come under a lot of criticism in recent weeks after they chose to fly off on holiday in a private jet.

The pair have been branded hypocrites for warning others about the cost to the environment of air travel, but then using millionaire pals' planes to fly around the world.

But the Duchess of Sussex has tried to show everyone she really is down to earth – and is actually more like us than you'd think.

Here we look at how, despite the protection offices and staff on tap, she has tried to live a normal life…

She loves a life hack

Back before she was a member of the royal family, Meghan wrote her own online blog The Tig, alongside her acting career.

In one of her entries, she revealed a clever trick to help your clothes smelling fresh while they are stuffed into your case on their way to your holiday destination.

The former Suits actress suggested adding tumble dryer sheets and layering them between shirts, skirts and dressees.

On the now deleted website she said: "Your clothes will smell fresh when you arrive — and especially when you return home."

Tumble dryer sheets – which are meant to go in with your wet washing to help it smell nice – cost around £1.80 for a pack of 40 from supermarkets. They can also be used in a number of other ways.

Social media cleaning sensation Sophie Hinchliffe – aka  Mrs Hinch  – places them inside cushion and pillow covers to keep them smelling divine.

And she also wipes her blinds and other surfaces with them as they are anti-static and pick up dust.

She does the family shop online and likes frozen meals

Meghan is reported to enjoy doing her family's big shop online to avoid walking round the aisles with a trolley and young baby Archie in tow.

Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl said the Duchess is known to use Ocado, rather than Harrods.

She said that during the last few weeks of her pregnancy, she prepared and froze organic meals ready for the busy months ahead.

Meghan is said to be “very hands on” at home, where she cooks meals for her family and rarely relies on royal staff.

She had a Pinterest board for her wedding

Meghan was no different from thousands of other brides, and took to Pinterest for inspiration for her big day.

Daniel Martin, the Duchess' make-up artist, revealed the information when he appeared on the Gloss Angles beauty Gloss Angeles.

He said: “I didn’t have a makeup trial with her because we couldn’t make the time.

“I knew what she liked and didn’t like. We exchanged a Pinterest pictures over text.

“But I think for anybody, Pinterest is an incredible tool to use as a reference.”

She looks like a normal new mum

The Duchess has been praised for her natural look as she stepped out to show off new baby Archie to the world.

With her bump still clearly visible under a white trench dress, the 37-year-old glowed with her natural beauty.

Many women said it seemed she had made a choice to accentuate her figure with a bespoke belted dress by British designer Grace Wales Bonner.

They assumed  that the decision was a “conscious effort to show how the typical female body reacts after labour” — and applauded her for it.

She pops to the pub for Sunday lunch

Along with husband Harry and baby Archie, Meghan was spotted enjoying a traditional roast dinner at The Rose and Crown in Winkfield village, Berkshire last month.

They paid £15 each for the meals and although Harry enjoyed a couple of pints, new mum Meghan stuck to water during their lunch.

One local told The Sun: "Meghan was cradling Archie most of the time. The little lad was as good as gold, I didn’t hear him cry once while he was there.

"No other customers recognised them. The staff clearly knew who they were but kept the service low-key."

She wears dresses from H&M

Back in January Meghan was spotted wearing a dress from High Street favourite H&M.

Having ditched the designer labels, she opted for a £36 knitted sleeved dress as she went on a royal visit to an animal charity.

Although she stuck to an all-beige color palette she did match the bargain dress with an Armani coat and a bag by Stella McCartney.

She holidays in Ibiza

The Sussex family travelled to the Spanish island of Ibiza for a five-day break this summer.

They left their home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor for a break on the Balearic island at the start of August.

The new family of three were spotted by locals, but tried to keep a low profile during the holiday.

She uses cheap sun cream

Meghan was spotted with a bottle of Nivea's factor 50+ sun cream on one of baby Archie's first outings.

While watching daddy Harry and uncle Prince William at the polo, Archie was seen with mum Meghan who had the £4.50 sun lotion ready to protect the youngsters skin.

The Sun Kids brand, which is a favourite among mums, was spotted balanced on a car as the newborn was sat in the shade with his royal cousins Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte.
