Kate Middleton ’emphasises’ words expressing ‘her own concerns and anxieties’ in new video

Kate Middleton shares support for Children’s Mental Health Week

Kate Middleton, 39, made a selfie video yesterday as Place2Be’s royal patron to mark the start of Children’s Mental Health Week. Her touching message encouraged people to look after themselves. A voice expert has commented on the Duchess’ speech.

Children and early years is a topic that is close to the Duchess’ heart, with the royal regularly speaking about the topic.

In her latest appearance, Kate wrapped up in a bobble hat to deliver her piece to camera.

In the video, the royal said: “This year’s Children’s Mental Health week is all about expressing yourself – about finding creative ways in which to share your thoughts, ideas, and feelings.

“So whether that’s through photography, through art, through drama, through music, or poetry – it’s finding those things that make you feel good about yourself.

“While this is Children’s Mental Health week, there has never been a more important time to talk about parental wellbeing and mental health too.

“Last year you told me just how important this was that many of us find it hard to prioritise.

“This is a hugely challenging time for us all so please look after yourself too. Find those ways in which to share your thoughts and your feelings, or find someone to talk to, because we really do need to be the very best versions of ourselves for the children in our care.”

Speaking to Express.co.uk Anna Fiorentini Performing Arts School for Kids and Adults shared how Kate’s speech had a steady pace.

The expert said: “It is obvious that this speech has been rehearsed because of the steady pace and voice inflexions on certain words. However, that does not distract from the sincerity of its content.

“This is a subject that is obviously very close to Kate’s heart and the speech naturally expresses her own concerns and anxieties as a parent.

“Where she says ‘last year you told me just how important this is’ she is telling her followers that she listens and empathises with their concerns.”

Anna explained how her eye contact throughout the video is steady which “evokes a feeling of truth”.

She added: “She uses sentences such as ‘but many of us find it hard to prioritise’, making it clear she is not judging but struggles with these expectations herself.”

Throughout the video, Kate places emphasis on certain words, expressing to the audience how important the topic is.

The expert continued: “She understands the importance of creativity at this time and the positive impact this has on mental well-being.

“Not just for the children but the parents themselves. Over the past few months, parents have been put under more pressure than ever before, having to juggle work and home tutoring and they are having to battle the constant feelings of guilt of not being able to give their children the standard of education that they would get at school.

“Continued feelings of guilt and inadequacy will naturally affect anybody’s mental health and self-esteem. Kate is very aware of this and emphasises words such as ‘now more than ever’.”

The Duchess smiles throughout the video, and keeps the “wording animated for the most part”, explained Anna.

For the speech, the Duchess appeared to be in a large field or garden wearing a navy Barbour jacket and matching bobble hat.

Her Barbour Longshore quilted jacket costs £160 and is a staple piece for Kate.
