Normal People’s Connell’s chain gets its own Instagram account

When the BBC released Normal People, fans were left swooning over Paul Mescal’s character, Connell.

But some viewers focused their admiration on one particular part of Connell’s attire – his silver chain.

One fan even started an Instagram account in its name which now has 169,000 followers.

The simple chain – which is described in the book as ‘Argos chic’ and is used to emphasise the class divide between Connell and Marianne – is rarely off the student’s neck throughout the show.

It was even sported by the character in steamy shower and sex scenes.

Another woman from Ireland posted a selfie showcasing her impressive new hairstyle and a silver chain in honour of Paul Mescal’s character, Connell.

‘Couldn’t decide between @mariannes_bangs & @connellschain,’ she explained.

‘So chaotically got both (nearly made it out of COVID without a fringe, but then got a little bit obsessed with @daisyedgarjones’ sweet do in @normalpeoplebbc).’

A third fan, from Boston, Massachusetts, revealed a selfie of her new look with the caption: ‘Sharing my Marianne-inspired bangs.’
