Royal Mail: Eight new postcodes affected by delivery delays this week – full list

Royal Mail has been dealing with delays this week and has shared the latest update. People living in eight postcodes may notice disruptions to services.

Royal Mail customers have experienced delays for a number or reasons, from high demand to extreme weather conditions.

When delays are expected, the postal service will let customers know through online updates.

This week, a “security incident” in Plymouth has led to delays in the delivery of letters and parcels.

A statement said: “Due to the evacuation of staff at our Plymouth Mail Centre and Plymouth Delivery Office, mail processing has been affected due to an ongoing security incident.

“We’re sorry that mail due for delivery in the PL1 to PL6, PL8 and PL9 postcode areas will be subject to delay.”

Plymouth Mail Centre was forced to temporarily close and, while it has now reopened, some could still have to wait for their items.

This is likely to affect those in the postcodes PL1, PL2, PL3, PL4, PL5, PL6, PL8 and PL9.

Royal Mail shared advice for those with any urgent mail to send.

It continued: “If there’s urgent mail to post, you may wish to consider taking this to a Post Office or dropping it off in person at Plymouth Mail Centre.

“The address is Breakwater Road, Plymouth, PL9 7XX.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience, we’ll return to normal service in Plymouth as quickly as possible.”

Across the rest of the UK, services are expected to be running as normal.

Only in a small number of cases will there be delays for Britons receiving their post, Royal Mail continued.

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week,” a statement continued.

“Due to resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures, deliveries in some areas are likely to be disrupted this week.

“We aim to deliver at least every other day in these areas, though this may not always be possible in offices temporarily affected by very high levels of absence.”

It added an apology to anyone affected by delays this week.

The post continued: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

“We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resources available to support these offices.

“And we’re ensuring we prioritise the delivery of Covid-19 vaccination letters and test kits.”
