These Are The Most Expensive Pieces Of Jewelry Used In Movies Ever

Besides international recognition for their talents, there are a few things that communicate to the outside world that they are in the presence of a celebrity – the luxury collection of cars they drive, extremely expensive apparel, and the extravagant jewelry they wear. But for some of Hollywood’s actors and actresses, the jewelry is worn both in their private lives and on the big screen. People tend to think of the Royal Family when it comes to diamond encrusted necklaces and other priceless jewels. For others, famous rappers like rapper/actor 50 Cent or the music/entrepreneurial mogul Jay-Z comes to mind since the hip-hop culture is based on wearing your wealth. But in keeping with Hollywood, here is a closer look at some of the most expensive pieces of jewelry used in movies.

Being that Hollywood is largely based on fictional films, it can be hard to tell when their props are authentic pieces or replicas. But when celebrities are actually allowed to wear some of the world’s most expensive necklaces, it’s truly an unforgettable moment. Such a moment took place in the 2018 comedy/crime film, Ocean’s 8, which was the forth installment of the film series.

The all-female spin-off was led by actresses such as Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, and even the Caribbean music icon, Rihanna. In the film, Anne Hathaway plays the role of a famous, vain, and egotistic actress named Daphne Kluger. Her role required her to wear a $150 million necklace which was originally crafted by Jacques Cartier in 1931 and is officially called the Toussaint Cartier necklace. According to Grazia, the necklace was flown from the France to New York for the film.

Expensive necklaces are definitely a woman’s obsession, as you will find that every piece of jewelry on this list is worn by a Hollywood actress. Supposedly, the idea of something so petite and fragile that is worth such a high price somewhat parallels a woman’s femininity. Or maybe shiny, expensive trinkets are simply a girl’s best friend? Whatever the reason for the obsession, the $30 million 128 carats yellow diamond necklace worn by Israeli actress Gal Gadot in the 2022 mystery film Death on the Nile was enough to cause a stir. The film was based on a novel by Agatha Christie of the same name and was direct by Kenneth Branagh, who intentionally replaced the simple pearl necklace described in the novel with this luxury diamond piece by Tiffany and Co. Before Gal Gadot wore the coveted necklace, Lady Gaga wore it to the 2019 Oscars, according to MVC Magazine.

If dogs are a man’s best friend, then diamonds are undoubtedly a girl’s best friend. And when they’re worn on a natural beauty like Kate Hudson, it’s merely a very costly icing on the cake. Hudson’s character, Andie Anderson, wears the necklace called “Isadora” during a gala scene in How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days. Isadora was actually the name given to the 84 carat yellow diamond pendant hanging off the wreath, taken from Isadora Duncan in the movie, and came to a total of $5,280,000.00. Her love interest in the movie, Matthew McConaughey, was also draped in De Laur Diamonds, while Hudson’s shining trinket, was created by Harry Winston.

This next diamond necklace has a bit of history behind its fame, dating all the way back to 1953 with the premier of the music comedy film, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. As per the Christie’s website, the timeless sex symbol Marilyn Monroe wore the 24.04 carat Fancy Yellow Moon of Boroda diamond while singing the film’s signature song, Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend. It is said that the diamond was found in the Golconda mines in India between the 15th and 17th centuries. With a price of approximately $4,378,850, the canary yellow pear-shaped diamond was considered as one of the finest examples of diamond-cutting in history at the time. American actress and model Jane Russell also co-starred with Monroe in the 1953 musical.

1 Titanic – Heart Of Ocean Necklace ($500 Million)

Here is where the lines between reality and fiction begin to get crossed. The movie that literally put Leonardo DiCaprio on the map, Titanic, would’ve featured the most expensive piece of jewelry on this list – if only it had been real. Released in 1997, the epic romance and disaster film will forever be a classic, partly because of the steamy love-making scene between DiCaprio and English actress Kate Winslet, and partly because of the Heart of Ocean necklace that Kate Winslet’s character, Rose, was wearing.

Because the alluring jewel was only a prop, The Israeli Diamond Industry estimated its actual worth at only $9,400. But had it been real, the supposedly 56-carat heart-shaped blue diamond in white gold would’ve been estimated at a whopping $500 million. However, the design for the Heart of Ocean necklace came was taken from 45.54-carat Hope Diamond, which was last sold to Harry Winston in 194. The blue diamond is currently housed at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. and is estimated to be between $200-$350 million.
