A thug viciously beat his housemate and then took selfies with the victim and left him seriously injured on the floor for 13 hours.
Jonathan Shutler, 28, posted photos of severely injured Wayne Pepper, 48, on Facebook and didn't bother to call for help until the next day after he went out for breakfast.
During an attack that lasted three hours, Shutler repeatedly stamped on Mr Pepper, flicked cigarette ash on his head, poured booze over him and stole cash from his wallet at YCMA housing in Radford, Nottingham.
Shutler watched TV and drank alcohol as Mr Pepper lay bloodied and bruised on the floor in need of urgent medical attention, Nottinghamshire Live reports.
Shutler, who has now been jailed for eight years, went to bed and left Mr Pepper alone on the floor with a traumatic brain injury that he may never recover from.
The attacker woke up the next morning, put his bloodstained clothing into the washing machine and then asked a friend to go for breakfast.
When they returned to his home the friend saw Mr Pepper on the floor and suggested Shutler call for an ambulance, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
Distressing photos previously released by Mr Pepper's family show him in a coma in hospital while hooked up to tubes and machines.
Shutler pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and jailed for eight years with an extended licence of three years after release.
Judge Gregory Dickinson QC said of the victim: "Time will tell if he ever makes a full recovery."
Mr Pepper had suffered a potential severe brain injury and facial fractures, and was placed into a medically-induced coma.
He continues to receive care and is now in a warden aided complex.
The court heard that he uses a walking stick and has problems with his balance and long-term memory following the April 6 attack.
His sister, Lisa Pepper, said in a statement: "He is not the brother I used to know. At times, I don't recognise who he is."
