Dog the Bounty Hunter ‘just friends’ with Moon Angell after proposal backlash

Dog the Bounty Hunter has insisted he's just "dearest friends" with Moon Angell after an onscreen proposal was met with backlash.

Dog, whose real name is Duane Chapman, appeared on the Dr Oz show last month with longtime friend Moon by his side.

A clip from the interview was shared via Dr Oz's Twitter account, along with the caption: "A marriage proposal?"

In the footage, the 67-year-old could be seen asking Moon: "Will you marry me?"

However, once the full interview aired, the proposal was revealed as a stunt as the two insisted they were simply dear friends.

Discussing their rumoured relationship, Dog said: "I think this will put a stop to a lot of this, Moon Angell will you marry me?"

Moon replied: "What? No. We're friends, Duane. I love you as a friend."

Clearing up the rumours, the TV personality replied: "'I know, but I want everyone else to know."

Speaking about her friendship with Dog's late wife Beth Chapman, who died last June, Moon insisted she wanted to remain respectful.

She said: "'I think he's an amazing human being, but I've known him before he was famous. To me, he will always be my best friend. I don't see myself thinking past that.

"Beth was my best friend. Duane is my best friend. I'm not crossing that line."

Daily Star Online has contacted Duane's representatives for comment.

The news comes after Dog's daughter Lyssa Chapman hit out at their relationship over Twitter, making it clear she didn't approve of their closeness.

She said: "If someone who met your family by dating your brother, tried to date your father after your stepmom died what would you do?

"If you went to your mothers closet and saw she moved all her clothes and replaced them with her own, what would you do? #ItsNotWhenOrWhyItsWho."
