BBC Breakfast presenter Steph McGovern has become a mum for the first time, welcoming a daughter with her girlfriend.
The 37-year-old confirmed the news on Twitter, posting: ‘Well hello world, just surfaced to let you know that we now have a daughter!
‘Born on Monday morning just as @BBCBreakfast was wrapping up.
‘We’re all fine and dandy. Just getting used to the eau de sick/poo I am now regularly wearing. #babylife.’
She had previously spoken of suffering from morning sickness during the early stages of her pregnancy, almost vomiting over one of her co-hosts at one point.
Telling Jon Kay on BBC Breakfast that she had had a ‘bit of a rough start’, she added: ‘Charlie [Stayt] nearly got covered in watermelon one morning.’
Her happy news comes after she announced she was leaving the morning news programme to front her own show on Channel 4.
Steph shared a farewell message on Twitter, thanking the BBC Breakfast team and the ‘show off’ presenters for having her back over the years.
Warning her followers of a ‘mush alert’, the 37-year-old said: ‘First up I want to thank BBC Breakfast….my home for over 8 years. It’s mushy, but the wonderful team on the show have been an extended family to me.
‘From the tech gang who make sure you can hear and see us, the production posse who make sure I’m in the right place at the right time, the makeup artists who make sure I don’t look a clip (Boro phrase), and the super sharp producers who carefully craft the stories that we cover, working all hours of the day and night. I love them. They have looked after me through thick and thin, and made me sound and look much better than I really am.
Turning to her co-hosts, including Dan Walker, Naga Munchetty and Louise Minchin, she said they are ‘the most supportive group of show-offs you’ll ever meet’.
‘Whatever is happening in each of our lives, we’ve covered for each other, fought for each other and of course regularly taken the mick out of each other too,’ she added.
She also thanked viewers for ‘getting me through the ups and the downs too. Always making me feel welcome in your homes.
‘And I haven’t tired of “I often wake up with you” being one of the common things said to me in the street!’
Steph finished off her heartfelt message saying: ‘Time to hang up my Breakfast hard hat and hi-vis. And say, thank YOU.’
Her new venture will be The Steph Show on Channel 4 in Spring 2020 which will be broadcast live from the channel’s new HQ in Leeds.
