Channel 4 viewers tuned in to see an emotional episode of A Place In The Sun on Tuesday afternoon. The property show saw host Laura Hamilton attempt to find Diane and Gary their dream holiday home in Paphos, Cyprus. Armed with a maximum budget of £140,000 Laura toured the house hunters around five different properties. However, she got a surprise when the couple took an enormous gamble.
Diane and Gary told Laura they were looking for a holiday home they could visit with their grown-up children and new grandson.
The couple were hoping to find a property with a minimum of two bedrooms and a swimming pool.
However, they also highlighted that accessibility was an important factor as Diane’s son is disabled and often uses a wheelchair.
With the ambition of finding somewhere that could tick all their boxes, Laura excitedly began the property search.
Diane and Gary liked the first four properties they viewed, but none of them were quite perfect.
However, when they reached the fifth and final holiday home, they were amazed.
The last property was a ground floor apartment on market for around £144,500.
Boasting sea views, two bedrooms, one bathroom, a courtyard and a communal pool, the apartment left the house hunters impressed.
Seeing Diane and Gary’s positive reactions, Laura asked: “Have I saved the best till last?”
“It’s looking like you might have done!” Diane exclaimed.
The couple eventually decided they wanted to make an offer on the property, but warned Laura it would be much lower than the asking price.
Explaining there were parts of the property they would want to improve, Diane and Gary revealed they wanted to make an offer of £125,000.
However, they were unsure if their offer would be taken seriously by the owner.
“I don’t think they’ll accept it,” Dianne remarked.
Laura soon encouraged them to put in the offer and “see what happens” and it wasn’t long before the seller came back with a counter-offer of £127,000.
“Can we go back with a counter-offer?” Diane asked.
The request shocked Laura who exclaimed: “Oh my word! What are you going to go back with?”
“She drives a hard bargain,” Gary laughed, as the couple agreed to go back to the seller with an offer of £126,000.
“I really thought you would go back and you would bite their arm off at £127,000,” Laura confessed.
However, the owner quickly came back with a response and Laura revealed the offer of £126,000 had been accepted.
Announcing the news, the presenter exclaimed: “The property is yours!”
Overcome with emotions, Diane remarked: “Oh wow.”
Laura commented: “Gary we’ve even got tears from you.”
“I know, I can’t believe we’ve come down that far,” Gary replied, with Diane agreeing: “I can’t believe it… sorry I’ve got tears.”
Breaking down, Laura confessed: “You’ve brought me to tears as well.
“What a property. What a price,” the presenter added, before congratulating the couple on the purchase of their new holiday home.
