Coronation Street fans are terrified for the fate of homeless hero Stu after spotting a rather concerning sign.

During a heart-to-heart with homeless Kelly Neelan, he opened up about his past – admitting he'd been a chef in a restaurant before the pandemic laid waste to the hospitality business.

And, while providing Kelly with a cup of coffee and an out-of-date cookie to help cheer her up, he was ready to dispense some sage advice to the youngster about living her best life and not letting the past affect her future.

However, Stu collapsed into a coughing fit more than once during the conversation – leading fans to worry about his health.

Turning to Twitter, one posted: "Stu's got the 'rona, I fear! #Corrie."

And another echoed: "Has Stu got TB?"

"I hope Stu is okay – he doesn't sound too good!" someone else posted with a broken hearted emoji and a crying face.

And another said: "Don't like that cough on Stu – he needs to ask Leanne for a Strepsil! #Corrie".

"Stu's not well at all…" another social media user fussed, while another theorised: "Stu is gonna die from the virus isn't he?!"

"With all his coughing I reckon Stu is going to die of COVID soon," someone else expressed.

Stu has been a great support for Kelly after she was released from prison and found herself on the streets, encouraging her to seek out the help of friends and family to get her through such a tough period.

He's made such an impression on fans that they want him to stick around a lot longer – especially after launching a campaign against the anti-homeless spikes littering Weatherfield.

Someone predicted: "Stu will be working at the Bistro as a chef in a few weeks… after he's recovered from COVID."

"Who else wants Stu to become a permanent character in Coronation Street?" another fan wondered.

Meanwhile, things seem to be getting dire for Kelly after she suffered a breakdown in the street and appears to be evading the eyes of her foster parents, Imran and Toyah.

She was spotted by vicar Billy at the soup kitchen – but ran away before he could confront her on her current living situation.

But will Stu be able to help her out of her dire straits?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
