Dan Walker had to hold back tears when he detailed his daughter Sue’s adorable reaction to his Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC Breakfast presenter started getting tearful when he opened up to It Takes Two host Rylan Clark-Neal about his Strictly debut making his daughter proud.

Dan told Rylan he was concerned about what his 14-year-old daughter Sue would make of his first dance on Strictly last weekend.

“She was sort of worried about me embarrassing her,” he explained.

Rylan chimed in: “The kids gave you two very strong instructions, and the first was, ‘Don’t embarrass me dad’, so what did they think?”

Dan, who has three children, quipped: “The other one was, ‘Don’t dance with your mouth open’.”

However, after his first dance with professional partner Nadiya Bychkova on the BBC One show, he was amazed to see Sue “with tears pouring out of her eyes” in the audience.

“Thankfully they were tears of joy and she sort of gave me this lovely little wave and said, ‘I love you’.

“So from going from, ‘Don’t embarrass me dad’, to being really proud was such a special moment.”

The 44-year-old news presenter started tearing up when he was recalling the affectionate moment with his daughter.

Rylan, who noticed Dan was getting emotional, said: “I love that, that is lovely.

“I can see you getting emotional Dan – all those years on BBC Breakfast and it was Rylan who made you cry on telly.”

Nadiya gave Dan a supportive pat on the shoulder before the news anchor regained his composure and joked: “And you’re back in the room.”

Dan and Nadiya will be performing the Pasodoble in the next episode of Strictly Come Dancing to Giant by Rag’n’Bone Man.

Fans of the show wished the presenter luck ahead of his next live dance, with Ryan Glendenning tweeting: “A Pasodoble for Dan and Nadiya. The dance of death where Nadia is concerned as she’s always gone home on a paso.

“Having said that I think Dan will do well. I hope his height won’t be a problem. #ItTakesTwo.”

He added: “#ItTakesTwo. @mrdanwalker is such a gentleman and is so down to earth. Nadiya and Dan have a wonderful partnership.”

Dan previously introduced his dance partner Nadiya to his wife Sarah Walker and the couple’s children, daughters Susanna and Jessica, and son Joe, alongside their beloved pet dog Winnie.

Their day in Dan’s hometown of Sheffield consisted of a trip to his hairdresser, before heading back to his home for dinner, prepared by Sarah.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday nights on BBC One.
