There’s no shortage of drama on Coronation Street, but what’s happening with Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine)?
You may be wondering if she’s set to exit the hit ITV soap – after more than 20 years on our screens – as her latest storyline unfolds, and seems to be taking her in a new direction.
But could Fiz really leave Greater Manchester for Norfolk… is all as it seems?
Here’s what’s happening to the character.
Is Fiz leaving Coronation Street?
Yep, Fiz is leaving the cobbles behind her… but fortunately it’s not forever.
Actress Jennie McAlpine is expecting her third child, and will be off the show while on maternity leave.
The popular TV star, 39, is mum to son Albert, eight, and daughter Hilda, four, with husband Chris Farr.
Jennie announced that she was pregnant again in January 2023, sharing with fans how she’d found out the happy news.
She also shared that she and Chris had decided not find out their baby’s gender until the birth.
‘Girl, boy – it’s not relevant!’ she said. ‘I’ve got two little humans who are very different from each other but I’m not sure they’re different because they’re a girl and a boy.’
Jennie revealed that she was six months along in January, which would put her due date somewhere around April 2023.
Jennie has played Fiz Dobbs – previously known as Fiz Stape and Fiz Brown – since 2001.
And she will depart the Cobbles temporarily in scenes airing tomorrow (Friday, May 12).
Nothing too dramatic will befall Fiz, as she embarks on a new job opportunity in Norwich.
Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) will offer Fiz a lucrative position as an Underworld supervisor, paying double her current salary – which husband Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) encourages her to take.
He’ll then drop her off at the train station, and no doubt there’ll be an emotional goodbye…
