Jenny McCarthy Calls 'The View' Gig 'Hell' on 'WWHL' — But Regrets This About Tell-All Book

According to Jenny, Brooke Shields dodged a bullet.

Brooke Shields lost out on a job at "The View" because of Jenny McCarthy — and, in Jenny’s eyes, she did her friend a favor by landing the gig over her.

Appearing on "Watch What Happens Live" on Tuesday night, McCarthy was asked about Shields’ admission on the same late night show last week that she was passed over by the ABC show in favor of Jenny after Elisabeth Hasselbeck was axed.

While the caller said Shields appeared "snotty" and "bitter" about it, neither host Andy Cohen or Jenny saw it that way.

"I’m friends with her, I love her and I think she knows deep inside that I took one for the team because, let’s just face it, that was hell," said McCarthy. "Hell. So you’re welcome Brooke."

In author Ramin Setoodeh’s tell-all book, "Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View," McCarthy said her time as cohost was "the most miserable I’ve been on a job in my twenty-five years of show business." She went on to compare Barbara Walters to "Mommie Dearest" and claimed Whoopi Goldberg was "controlling." Jenny was only on the show for one season from 2013-2014.

When asked if she had any regrets about anything she told Setoodeh for the book, McCarthy said she only wished the press had painted a full picture regarding her comments about Walters.

"Oh, god no nothing," she said regarding regrets. "They did slant a little bit towards Barbara and I … the newspapers want to get the salacious part. But in the book, you hear of my admiration for her, I love her. That’s the only thing I regret, the headline, the clickbait."

In the book, McCarthy did say she loved Walters "like a grandma" and reiterated in further interviews that she had nothing but respect for the legendary reporter. On her radio show around the time of the book’s release, she added, "You can adore someone and be terrified of them at the same time."
