Mike Johnson may not be the bachelor, but he is in the beginning stages of dating singer/actress Demi Lovato. So life’s not too terrible.
According to an Entertainment Tonight source, after months of flirting online, Johnson finally took Lovato out on a date in Los Angeles.
“Everything went well on the date,” said the source. “They had been messaging and then got in touch in real life through Hannah Brown.”
A source also told PEOPLE that Johnson and Lovato are “having fun and getting to know each other,” adding that “they’ve been talking privately for a bit and hanging out.”

Then, on September 18, Johnson confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that he and Lovato did, indeed, go on that date.
“Demi Lovato and I went on a date. The woman is quite astounding and amazing. And that’s all I’ll say on that,” he said.

Johnson also confirmed on the “Bachelor Happy Hour With Rachel & Ali” that he and Lovato are really hitting it off, and have even met up more than once.
“I think she’s amazing. She’s incredibly humble,” he said. “When Demi and I are together, it’s laughter and we talk about real sh*t. Like, she’s a down-to-earth woman and I respect it so much. And she’s just a really humble, really cool, really fun, down-to-earth person.”
As for their relationship status, Johnson says: “My status of the relationship with Demi and I are that we are two people exploring each other.”

Johnson also spoke about the moment he learned he wasn’t the bachelor on “Bachelor Happy Hour With Rachel & Ali.”
“I found out in the trailers, you know, right before you go on [the] Bachelor in Paradise reunion and I knew it. I already knew in my head,” he said on the podcast. “Yes, I wanted to be the Bachelor. Yes, I auditioned to be the Bachelor. I went in there with the right intentions of wanting to find love [and] wanting to be true to myself. You might have seen do-rag king come back. I had a list, a word document, of the type of women I wanted, what I was scared of [and] what I wasn’t scared of.”

At first, he was pretty disappointed, despite his budding relationship with Lovato.
“When I first found out, I’m not gonna lie — I was sad. I was annoyed when I very first found out,” he said. “But then, I think by the end of the night, I wasn’t annoyed no more because I was appreciative and thankful that they told me ‘No’ right then and there, because now I can focus on myself. I’m just blessed because I know I’mma find my wife and find my queen.”
Johnson might not have to look too far for his future wife, his queen. She could be right under his nose, waiting for him to “swing” her.
