Ruth Langsford admits she's 'never tried to be' mother to Eamonn Holmes' children
Loose Women panellist Ruth Langsford and her co-stars addressed being part of blended families on the latest instalment on the ITV talk show.
Ruth, 63, opened up about being a stepmother to her spouse Eamonn Holmes’ children Declan, 34, Rebecca, 32, and Niall, 30 from his first marriage to Gabrielle Holmes.
She explained: “It’s quite terrifying meeting someone’s children. I had no children when I met Eamonn’s three.
“You know, we have a great relationship but it’s terrifying because suddenly there’s these three kids all looking at you.
“You think, ‘If they don’t like me, this is going to be tricky,’ but fortunately they did.
“I was also very respectful about their mum, they have a mum, I am not their mum, I’ve never tried to be their mum.
“I’ve never even tried to be their ‘best friend’ as people call it, I’m just Ruth and that’s worked well for us.”
Jack Holmes, 21, is Eamonn and Ruth’s only son and he is currently studying at university.
Ruth opened up last year about “spinning plates” after having a child later in life.
“I had children later in life and I’m still responsible for children,” the broadcaster explained.

“Some people might have elderly parents who start needing some care, a full-time job, and marriage or relationship to pay attention to.
“Spinning all those plates is very, very difficult and I think that sometimes women put themselves last and the juggling means that it’s hard to find time for yourself.”
Ruth tied the knot with Eamonn on June 26, 2010, and the couple used to present This Morning on Fridays together.
They were replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary nearly three years ago.
Eamonn now hosts GB News on weekday mornings alongside Isabel Webster and Ruth regularly appears on Loose Women.
After being appointed to GB News, Eamonn told The Guardian: “I made the jump to GB News because options dried up. The ‘wrong age’ at the ‘wrong stage’ – at some point it becomes very hard to get work.”
Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
