Spoilers: Callum goes undercover to expose Phil to save Ben in EastEnders

Callum Highway (Tony Clay) set in motion a dangerous plan in EastEnders tonight (September 22), as he attempts to acquire evidence on Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) to save Ben (Max Bowden).

Viewers will know that Ben attempted to set up Danny Hardcastle (Paul Usher) in order to secure his freedom, but doing so ultimately backfired, as Danny grassed on Ben — handing him to the police on a silver platter.

Ben’s fate was up in the air, but — upon discovering that Callum was in a relationship with the young man — DI Thompson (Phillip Wright) issued him with an ultimatum.

Yes, he promised to keep shtum about the fact that Callum lied about having spotted Ben on the CCTV if the young man got him enough evidence to put Phil behind bars.

Callum initially refused to do so, but Thompson clarified how his declination means that Ben would go to jail once more — leaving the young copper conflicted.

In tonight’s episode, Ben was let go — much to Phil’s confusion — but it later came to light that Callum had agreed to Thompson’s deal, and therefore he Ben was released.

Richie Scott (Sian Webber) informed Phil that there was something fishy going on, and that she believes the police are after him.

Callum has taken a huge risk in order to save his beloved Ben, but will it pay off?

Will he get evidence on Phil? Or will he be unable to go through with it?

What’s more, will Phil work out the truth?
