What Spooks' stars look like now – 20 years after hit spy drama first aired | The Sun

BBC spy drama Spooks first aired on screens 20 years ago and the cast have gone on to become bonafide A-list stars.

The series followed a group of MI5 officers working in counter-terrorism. It launched in May 2002, going on to have 10 series and a spin-off movie.

While fans continue to hope Spooks will make a comeback, here's what the cast look like now and what movies and TV shows they have starred in since.

Matthew McFayden

Matthew Macfayden portrayed Tom Quinn in BBC spy drama Spooks.

The character was the Chief of Section and Senior Case Officer for Section D.

Matthew has appeared in many TV series, including HBO drama Succession, Victorian crime drama Ripper Street, and portraying Charles Ingram in Quiz, a drama about the infamous Who Wants To Be A Millionaire cheating scandal.

On the big screen, Matthew most recently took on the lead role in World War Two espionage drama Operation Mincemeat. His other movie credits include Frost/Nixon, Robin Hood, and Pride & Prejudice.

Keeley Hawes

Keeley Hawes took on the role of Zoe Reynolds, a Junior Case Officer for Section D. The character was hidden 'off-the-books' in Chile after she was caught making a mistake on an undercover mission.

Keeley has gone on to become on of Britain's most popular television stars with roles on Line of Duty, The Bodyguard, It's a Sin, and The Midwich Cuckoos.

David Oyelowo

David Oyelowo portrayed Danny Hunter in hit BBC spy drama, Spooks.

Danny – a Junior Case Officer for Section D – was executed during a terrorist hostage situation.

David Oyelowo has carved out a career in the film industry with roles in Selma, The Help, Queen of Katwe, A United Kingdom, and Jack Reacher.

Outside of Spooks, David's television credits include The Good Wife, Star Wars Rebels, The Lion Guard, and Robot Chicken.

Jenny Agutter

Jenny Agutter took on the role of Senior Case Officer Tessa Phillips, who fled the UK after sabotaging an operation.

Jenny was already an indisputable British TV icon before joining the cast of Spooks, having first shot to fame as a child actress in BBC TV series The Newcomers, and The Railway Children.

She has most recently appeared in period drama Call the Midwife as Sister Julienne.

Her film credits include The Eagle Has Landed, An American Werewolf in London, and The Avengers.

Peter Firth

Peter took on the role of Sir Harry Pearce KBE, the Head of Counter-Terrorism Department at MI5.

The actor has starred in a string of TV roles, with appearances in Heartbeat, Victoria, Dickensian, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Most of his film work happened before landing the role in Spooks, with his most notable roles including family flick Mighty Joe Young and war epic Pearl Harbor.
