Eamonn Holmes thanks followers for messages of support

News broke recently that Eamonn Holmes, 61, and Ruth Langsford, 60, were being replaced on their regular Friday This Morning slot by Alison Hammond and Dermott O’Leary. While the announcement came as a shock at first, the pair have now decided to undergo a major lifestyle change and put their spare time to good use by getting fitter and healthier, following Eamonn’s three stone weight loss over the past five years.

“I genuinely believe in New Year’s resolutions.

“It’s a great time to take stock to repair your habits, to improve your life.”

The ITV star made the first step to losing weight in 2015, after admitting those early starts while hosting GMTV led to gobbling multiple breakfasts as and when he could, which played havoc with his waistline.

Ruth agreed with their notion to get fit, and explained why they’re choosing to begin weight training.

“A lot of fitness experts advocate weight or resistance training to give yourself tone, strengthen your core, posture and strengthen your bones, therefore staving off osteoporosis in older age,” she said of their health fear.

“My vision is to get a weights bench in the garage and spend 30 mins every day on a joint routine.”

Eamonn has been working off a fasting diet, keeping 12 hours everyday food and drink free.

He credits the strategy, alongside exercise, to shifting another stone which meant he weighed just 15 stone in January of this year.

“We need to move briskly for 30 minutes, three times per week minimum,” he told The Mirror.

Fasting isn’t the only method Eamonn has used for weight loss.

The TV presenter also tried “juicing” nine months after he made his New Years resolution, which saw him lose 10lbs that year.

“Now, if I have lunch, I will have a juice for dinner,” he said.

“If I have it during the day, I look forward to a meal in the evening.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
