Paulina Porizkova opens up about ‘shock of finding’ husband Ric Ocasek dead, estate battle that followed
After a drawn-out battle with the estate of her late husband, Ric Ocasek, Paulina Porizkova revealed she’s reached a settlement and will “be fine.” Speaking to Andrew Goldman for the Oct. 24 edition of his Los Angeles Magazine podcast, “The Originals,” the supermodel, 56, opened up about everything from the pair’s split to her decision to continue living with Ric as they navigated divorce proceedings to her discovery that she’d been cut out of Ric’s will weeks shortly his unexpected death in 2019. Though she declined to divulge a number, Paulina dismissed claims Ric was only worth $5 million at the time of his death but said, “I know exactly how much I’m owed under New York law, how much is due to me. And I am getting it. The estate is settling with me.” (According to CelebrityNetWorth.com, Ric was worth closer to $40 million in 2019.) Asked point-blank “how much” money was involved in the settlement, Paulina said, “That I cannot tell you, [but] I am gonna be fine. … I settled last week with the estate. They were very fair.” The model also spoke candidly about finding her husband dead at 75 in their New York City townhouse. “It completely sideswiped me, I had no idea. … I didn’t know how to make heads or tails out of anything,” she admitted. “The shock of finding him and the grief of him being dead and then ‘Oh, guess what? You get no money. He didn’t want you to have [any] money, and he disinherited his two oldest sons.’ So, I was really messed up, and I won’t ever have the answers.” She added that his altered will may have been “cobbled together” quickly by lawyers before he went into surgery. In his updated will, Ric had specified that because of the divorce, “I have made no provision for my wife.” He went on to say that if he were to die before the divorce was finalized, “Paulina is not entitled to any elective share … because she has abandoned me.” Paulina explained on the podcast that she and Ric had been living together, with separate bedrooms, for about five years when he passed. “I felt really bad about leaving him in this big, old, empty house,” she explained. “I knew he needed help. I loved him. I didn’t want him to have a hard time.” Paulina and Ric tied the knot in 1980, when the Czech beauty was 24.
