Lucy Boynton, 27, spoke out on how she was once put on the spot with “crude and candid questions” about her three-year relationship with Rami Malek, 40. The Bohemian Rhapsody actress was caught off guard when grilled about her romance with the James Bond villain and it prompted her to “pull back” from discussing it in public.
Speaking on the mystery that surrounds the couple’s relationship back in 2019, Boynton said: “I had an interview recently where I was asked such crude and candid questions about my relationship.
“It kind of forced me to pull way back.”
Boynton and Malek met at Abbey Road Studios just before they started shooting Bohemian Rhapsody together in 2018.
It was an intense day, and the actress was dealing with anxiety as she always does by reading in a corner.
She recalled how Malek came over to her and made a plan for the scene, and she instantly realised what a key ally he would be.
“Rami felt so much the leader of that set,” she explained to The Cut.
“The cast became so close going through that, as you always do when going through a particularly stressful experience, to put it politely.”
Malek made his first public remarks on their relationship during the Palm Springs International Film Festival in early January 2019.
While giving his acceptance speech for the Breakthrough Performance Award, Malek told the audience, “Thank you, Lucy Boynton. You have been my ally, my confidant, my love. Thank you so much.”
In the film, Malek played leading man Freddie Mercury while Boynton starred as his fiancee Mary Austin.
He took home the coveted award for Best Actor during the Oscars’ 2019 ceremony which his leading lady also attended.
The couple were last spotted out in public last month, while packing on the PDA in California.

The notoriously private pair were photographed holding hands as they shopped at Book Soup bookstore on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.
They were seen making their way over to the actor’s silver Porsche while masked up to protect against the coronavirus.
The Bohemian Rhapsody actor was dressed casually for the outing, wearing slacks with a green belt, a white T-shirt, combat boots and a backwards hat.
Meanwhile, The Politician actress looked edgy in a leather jacket, leather boots and patterned pants.
Malek is currently on the press trail for his role in the latest James Bond film, No Time To Die as villain Saffin opposite Daniel Craig’s 007.
He recently spoke about his character in a new featurette for the film, which was pushed back from April to November due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“What I really wanted from Safin was to make him unsettling, thinking of himself as being heroic,” the Oscar-winning actor said.
“Safin is a formidable adversary, James Bond has to adapt to that.”
